Visit a flight school at your local airport. Most schools actually start you with flight training and then introduce ground training.

AOPA has very useful information on their web site.

For information on helicopter training visit:

The first step would be to look at aopa.org and find the closest flight school to where you live. Then, talk with an instructor there. He or she can guide you as you begin your training in aviation.

There are also several books that you can get to help you with ground school like the Jeppesen Private Pilot Manual and the Gleim Private Pilot study guide.

Start with the FAA and see what is required for the kind of license that you want to obtain.

Then, because you will need both ground and in-flight training, look for flight academies in your area

or..

you can also gamble and join the Air Force..you MAY get training as a pilot if you qualify.

You would want to find a local flight school where you can start taking lessons. You can find flight schools at http://www.beapilot.com/ they have a large database, you may want to start out with just a introductory flight first to make sure that this is something that your really want to pursue, as it takes a large investment of time and money.

Hope this helps and good luck!
