I fugured it out. You put the 6n gallon bucket in the 11 fill it up, remove the six gallon bucket so you have 5 gallons in the 11 gallon bucket. Next fill up the 6 gallon bucket and pour it into the 11gallon bucket until no more will fit. Now you hal1 gallon in the 6 gallon bucket and 11 in the 11. Dump out the 11 and put the 1 gallon into it. Fill up the 6 and pour it into the 11 so you have 7 in the 11. Fill up the 6 again and pour as much that will fit in the 11. Now the 11 is full and the six has 2 gallons in it. Pour those 2 gallons into the 11 and pour a full 6 gallon bucket into it and you will have 8 gallons in the 11 gallon bucket.

hi, i fully agree with your whole process of getting the 8 gallons of water filled up in the 11 gallon bucket, except for the first part.

Reason: putting the 6gallon bucket into the 11gallon bucket would take up a certain volume. thus when u fill up the 11gallon bucket (with the 6 gallon bucket inside) and then take out the later, u will not have a full 5 gallon remaining. Instead you will have slightly lesser than 5 gallons of water.

perhaps, you may consider changing the 1st few steps to:

1) filling up the 11 gallon bucket
2) transfer 6 gallons to the other bucket to retain 5 gallon
3) drain the 6 gallon bucket
4) followed by the rest of your methodology.

just a suggestion,
rgds

Put the 6 gallon bucket inside the 11 gallon bucket. Fill up the 11 gallon bucket. Remove the 6 gallon bucket full of water. The 11 gallon has 5 gallons left in it. Mark the water line on the 5 gallon bucket. Fill up the 6 gallon bucket. Dump 1 gallon into the 11 gallon. Do this two more times. The end.

Fill the 6 gal. pour it into the 11. Fill the 6 gal again, and pour it into the 11. Exactly 1 gal will remain in the 6 gallon bucket. Repeat 7 more times for 8 gallons.

get any other container and dump the six gallon in then dump six gallons in the eleven twice saving leftover 1 gallon put in other container do this twice you will have a total of 8 gallons in other container well then maybe dump 11 into 6 will have 5 left and dump 1/2 of six into 11 to make 8 but your only guessing last 3 gallons thats why i said the other way or dump two sixs into the eleven 1 left in six empty eleven and dump six into eleven now one dump two sixes into evellen 2
left empty eleven dump two into eleven then a six equalls 8 wastes a lot of water but gets you eggsactly eight gallons hope you not to confused there
just to make it clear 2 six=12 1gallon left 12 +1=13 2gallon left in six gallon jug 6+2=8 to be put in the eleven gallon jug.
