Try to find a local Kung Fu San Soo gym. You will find a lot of Chinese martial arts have free fighting/boxing in them. Kung Fu San Soo is all the good stuff Chinese martial arts offer. No animal poses or fluff simply great striking, leverages, take downs, kicks (useful mostly joint focused), and of coure ground technique.
I have been studying KFSS since 1991 and love it. I also train in BJJ for fun and to compete. I love them both. Go have fun and enjoy. The reality is you will never find yourself in a street fight, unless of course you go looking for trouble which I do not advise.
Go find an art that fits your life style and goals (have fun, build endurance, lose weight, break bones, submit people etc...). Also take time to talk extensively wiht the school owner, watch their classes and get to know other students. You should feel comortable where ever you train. After all you will be spending a lot of time and money in that gym. so take your time and find and art that makes you happy or curious about learning more. Finally be humble. A good student is an empty student. You must listen and be ready to take in the training that is given to you.
Good luck.

If you're 14, you are still in high school, right? If your school has a wrestling team, jump at that. You won't find a better way to get in shape and get to your know body's capabilities, and it's usually free.
The ninja were not well known for their hand-to-hand fighting skills. If you like sneaking around and black pyjamas, then take ninjitsu, by all means, but don't think you'll learn fighting there.

Many Okinawan styles, truly great against Street fighter. I have been practicing over 36 years now. Started at 24, and still getting better.
You being 14, don't get into dojo, that wants to take you to tournaments. If dojo doesn't allow you to watch class, don't bother.
Matsumura Shorinryu, has weapons as well great fighting concepts against, street fighter. You want a Self-defense school, and after you have gotten older; then you have great conditioning exercises, for knuckles, without making everyone you meet know you practice karate. If dojo you visit, has all seito(students) developing your knuckles to point it chances color of knuckle...Not good...You loose element of surprize, very important tool.
One if confronted with possible fight;;;;first,,tries to avoid. Nothing to prove, once you have learned to strike nerve points and arteries, that typically will drop high percentage of individuals

you can learn all you want but that wont help you when you get hit in the mouth...watch some mma events. watch the black belt get knocked out by a punch to the head. watch the striker get taken down by the wrestler and watch the wrestler get summited by the jujitsu..so your best bet is to learn a bit of it all , but for using it on the street ...come on if you dont have the heart of a fighter you arent going to be one

it's not the art, it's the attitude.
Do you think the average mugger has studied any martial art?
No.
They have studied their victims, and they have practiced predatory ways.
Don't go for a style - look for a school that emphasizes hard sparring, over and over and over.

yeah, jkd is your best bet, but no weopons. for the weopons part maybe aikido. choy li fut is good for the grappling and takedowns, but only uses traditional weapons. if you are just being bullied or something though, you can study dim mak. it uses the pressure points to stun, knock out, or kill.

ninjitsu is not the answer, as there are little to no legitimate ninjuitsu schools in the country. look into krav maga.
