my job is supposed to provide insurance for the cars that I move. I recently discovered that they have not been providing it. What do I do? They took money from my check twice for a simple scratch that is supposed to be covered by thier insurance that they don't have!! I work for a car rental out at the airport, I'm in charge of getting the cars cleaned up when they are returned after use.

The answer lies in the employer/employee handbook agreement that you received when you started the job. (All employers of a certain size or greater must provide something like that). If it does not, then you are entitled to ask your Human Resources (or whatever they have) deparatment for the policy and coverage that they provide.

It may simply be that there is a deductible for their coverage and, you must repay that amount to the company for any damage that you cause that is your fault.

A hard line, but based on the reasonable requirement that you are responsible for your actions.

after you do the research you will know how to proceed further. If you still feel that you were unjustly docked amounts from your pay, find out what their process for appeal is. If there is none, then you can either

a) File a complaint with the State Labor Commissioner (or whatever he/she is called in your state);
b) File a small claims action to have the issue heard by a judge (we call that Wapnerizing them);
c) File a civil suit (requires a lawyer) for their actions against you (and possibly against other fellow employees if this is a dubious company policy).

Keep in mind that any of these three actions will likely get you fired for some other reason.

however you go... good luck.

First, they probably do have collision coverage or the airport woudn't let them operate there. But minor dents & scratches are probably under their deductible, which means your employer would have to eat the cost o fminor damages, which is why they are charging you for it.

If they really don't have insurance, then you need to look for another job because you are liable and at considerable risk.
