I'm 13/14 and people in my year are always asking each other out but half the time they're joking. Since the beginning of the year 3 people have asked me to marry them and 5 said they loved me. (They were all joking). But how can I tell when they're serious?

Believe me I am an expert at this. If the boy asks you out, and he is friends with other boys who were joking, they may all be in on it (what a mean thing to do).
A boy won't just ask you out without getting to know you first. So if this boy is not your friend, and does not really talk to you he probably isn't serious about asking you out.
A boy who IS SERIOUS about asking you out will most likely be shy and nervous when he does it, becuase his feeling are real for you. If he likes you , he will stare at you alot, if you catch him, smile back.
If the boy is much better looking than you and does not normally talk to you, don't let him get away with being mean to you by joking. Have something smart to say back like "I'm sorry, but I just couldn't picture myself with someone as cruel and pathetic as you"

Its a different kind of relationship when people are kidding as opposed to when they are serious. You have to wait until the person is genuine and you can always tell that!

you can tell they are serious if they continue to stay around you or if they flirt with you for a while or mess around with you like tease you then you know they want to date you
