sliding objects in peripheral vision?

objects in my peripheral vision seem to "slide" either when im reading or just staring into space. could this be optical neuritis? this is one of several new symptoms ive been experiencing over the past few days, including numbness/weakness/tingling in my hand and leg

Could be, but I doubt it. I went through a odd patch with my eyes, where the best explanation I could find, looking through a child's toy Kaleidoscope [sp] the peripheral vision broke down into 'squares' and 'circled'. It was so scary that I sat down until it passed. After several bouts of this it vanished.
