No prison for delinquent credit card debit; and it doens't get better or go away by ignoring them.

Call them before they sue and attach wages and destroy credit.

The companies would much rather they were contacted. Court is expensive, if your partner phones them up they will be able to agree a fair price to pay back each month, (less than the "minimum" if you really can't afford it. The sooner this is done the better (and cheaper) it will be in the long run.

Tell your partner that it is probably a good idea not to use credit cards or store cards if they aren't able to manage their money. A debit card and a savings account for those big purchases will work out much better.

I have learned that it's always better to just swallow your nervouseness & call the credit card company and make an honest appeal to arrange a paymen plant with them. Don't hide or avoid them, they hate that and will just hound you. Explain your situation and how much you can pay.

You could call them and attempt to settle the debt. Make them an offer of 50% of what you owe and they might accept it. And like the other people said, you can't go to prison for it.

The bottom line is they want their money. They don't want anything else. Don't worry about anything if you have some money to give them. They will work it out.
