There are a lot of things that have been done with text in drawing, painting, and all sorts of other media -- which doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it! Artists have been using words as primary content of paintings for centuries (a lot of examples come to mind from the "Dada" movement circa World War I, but there were examples long before). That said, if your idea is to have the word "small" be largely-printed and the word "large" much smaller, I'm pretty sure that was done by an artist from the Fluxus movement. If you're interested in exploring this sort of conceptual art, check out the work of Fluxus artists like Dick Higgins, Yoko Ono, and the variety of "visual poetry" artists that have emerged since Dada and Fluxus captured conceptual artists' imagination.
Here's a good primer on Fluxus and Visual Poetry:

All that said, I think your instructor will be pleased if you create an innovative conceptual piece (even if the innovation of it may be in question), as long as you have some art-historical knowledge of the 20th century to back it up and share with the rest of the class!

Don't think of your work like that...Would using red paint be a problem? Other people also used that before?
There is this famous dutch artist that poored a bottle of soda pop into the sea and called it art. Almost anything has been done before.....but not by you.
If your proses is true and clean nobody will give a hoot if it has been done before. It will be your unique baby.

Yes, things like that have been done. Though you can do them your way. Painting apples has been done millions of times and people still come up with new paintings of their personal vision of an apple.
If you look at text art, visual poetry or at calligraphic art you will see examples. If they are well done they can be very good and not easy to do.
