First of all God is love - there is no evil in Him. If a Christian chooses to display hate - he is wrong - plain and simple.
Christians follow Christ and His teachings - if a Christian follows what he wants to do - he is sinning - therefore not following Christ - therefore not a true Christian. Nuf said.
Of course I cringe when I hear about these things - BUT it seems that people want to focus on the BAD people and the GOOD people (whether it be Christians, gays, politicians, preachers, women, men, etc - the list goes on and on). My primary focus, if I'm a true Christian, should be Jesus and Him alone - unfortunately that is not always the case. Blessings dear one.

The only message I get from Phelps and his gang is how completely ignorant some people are. Picketing funerals is cowardly and to picket everyone's funeral because of homosexuals? Moronic to say the least. Do you know some other ministers, as well as secular people, have interviewed him and he does not act like that when face to face? His group and anyone that agrees with it should have to endure the same type of treatment at their loved ones funerals. These people are disgusting.
Yes, I believe it will help... I just hope it helps in time for that old man to see it.
I hope when that old man dies everyone who has ever had to put up with him and his Gang (and they are indeed a gang...) shows up at his funeral with picket signs showing that people should be Compassionate towards others instead of spreading hatred and strife as those people do.

Fred Phelps is one of the most well known examples of religion gone wrong. He takes from a faith all that he needs to justify his hate and gives no reverence to any other message then those that support his hate.He is among the most extreme of the fundamentalist Christians. While his message is not usually accepted by most average fundamentalists, when it comes to homosexuality, many if not most fundamentalists have much in common with him and his ideology. It is a very thin line between hate for homosexuality and hate for everything else.
With that said, most Christians, fundamental and otherwise, would deny his message when it comes to 9/11, Katrina, funerals of soldiers, and every other tragedy. While some might agree to a point that God is punishing us or that the world is ending soon, most of them would not go as far as he does. But again, it is only a thin line between what he does and what points he makes that are agreed with.

I'm not surprised, of course - Phelps is full of hate and will take every opportunity he can to publicize himself while hurting others.
The only thing he does when picketing is make Christians look like they're full of hate and anger. People begin to associate him with fundamentalists and then with all Christians. Well, he is NOT a Christian - he doesn't follow Christ, so he can't be classified that way. He is not a fundamentalist - he is no Christian at all.
By the way, he may quote scripture. But the slogan he's famous for is not from the Bible. Scripture never says, "God hates fags." But it DOES say that God loves everyone.

Fred Phelps and all of his followers are a bunch of glue-sniffing, turd-eating, hateful dimwitted closet homosexuals who are totally into sex involving poop, pee and barnyard animals. I am usually too lazy to be truly violent but I swear if I am ever face-to-face with this a**h*le I will hurt him physically and proudly face any consequences for doing so.
In a way, I suppose it could almost be a good thing that he is the way he is.....stand ANY gay person up next to him and they will look like a paragon of virtue and morality compared to him.
All gay people that I have personally met and gotten to know are just people like anyone else, just trying to get along in the world as best they can. They do not deserve to be bashed, denied the same rights the rest of us enjoy and/or discriminated against just because they are gay. Like all people, some of them are jerks and some of them are peaches and most of them fall somewhere in between.

What a horribly insensitive and hateful thing to do!!!
Jesus is horrified at this man's misrepresentation of Christianity and it's ideals, I am sure.
Mr. Phelps needs to return to the rock he crawled out from under and leave the world alone!
True Christians do not spew hateful or vindictive rhetoric and instead "do unto others" as Jesus commanded.
I hope this guy does turn out to be the singular thing he is soooo against! "Methinks the preacher doth protest too much."

I agree that is not the time or place to exercise his right to free speech. He is probably doing it for the national attention and news cameras.
He doesn't represent anyone that I know of in the Christian culture. Though no one I know in Christianity condones homosexuality I can't think of anyone who would condone Mr. Phelps actions either.

I feel sorry for all those relatives of those whose funerals have been picketed by the Westboro, that is just sick to do to someone, I don't care what you believe, let the poor people grieve!
BTW: I didn't know that they were going to go to the VT funeral, I heard on the XM radio that they are going to go to the next VT graduation and picket then. But maybe they are doing both? idk

According to the Bible, God wants all to come to repentance. I think Fred Phelps is a horrible individual, NOT A CHRISTIAN MAN. What a horrible thing, to picket a gay person's funeral. That is not right....

I'm Southern Baptist and he makes me sick. He gives all Christians a bad name. Picketing at a funeral is the lowest of low. These poor families are in mourning and more than ever needing the comfort of God and he is there running God's great name into the ground. I'm sure the things he's doing "in the name of God" aren't much appreciated by God himself.
