To me, it describes the many individuals who cling to the ways of thinking, and the cultures, of this physical world.
And, as the teacher always used to say... Put it into a sentence...
We're all born into an "Endarkened" state of mind so that we can fully experience (and enjoy!) our path of ascension to an "Enlightened" state of mind.

An antonym of enlightenment. To enlighten is to make free of confusion or ambiguity; hence, to endarken would be to cause confusion or ambiguity. A synonym of obfuscate, to make dark, uncertain, or unclear.
Endarkenment: 1) education that results in misunderstanding and the spread of ignorance. 2) a movement that advocates the avoidance of reason.

A Prayer for Endarkenment
by Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, M.D.,1996
Author - "The Isis Papers: The Keys to the Colors"
THOU who art Blacker
Than a trillion midnights;
Whose eyes shine brighter
Than a billion suns.
THOU whose hair doth
Coil tighter than a
Million springs, radiating
All energy throughout
The universe.
We beseech THEE, ONE
And ONLY ONE
To give us total strength
to carry out THY will for the universe!
To establish JUSTICE on
planet Earth and live in PEACE.

Rainbows have always brought a smile on my face...its a sign of optimism and joy when the sun shines in the horizon after a heavy down pour...i still remember during my school days i used to run towards rainbows trying to find out where exactly it is located and take a closer look at the beauty of nature. For me rainbows will always fill my heart with joy and happiness. Great Question !! TC!

I would assume that endarkenment would be "enlightenment's opposite." If my assumption is correct then I would define it as: great emotional despair; an inverse epiphany; overwhelming depression or sorrow in constant waves. Lifelong sorrow; pining.

Simplistically: to make dark. I assume that you refer to a darkening of the mind or of thought (or rather a removal of understanding), as an opposite to "enlighten."
