Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a biological membrane. It only works for water not learning.

Osmosis is the diffusion or absorption of water. My science teacher has this poster up on her wall...It is impossible for books to absorb through the microscopic pores of your skin, or even your cells, so when Garfield is saying this, he's just trying to cop out of doing homework by using a scientific word incorrectly. haha. The only real way to acquire knowledge is to read...obviously...if only we could learn everything in school by just looking or touching the material! :)

Actually yes it does. Simple organisms use a different chemical process to retain information and it has been found that certain microorganisms and small worms can gain knowledge through consuming and absorbing the bodies of their companions.

I don't know specifics because it's been years since biology class, but it works.

Not for people or complex organisms though.

Absolutely. If you sleep on a news paper the ink will rub off onto your face, leaving the material you were trying to study imprinted on your skin.

no, there is no evidence to support passive learning is an effective means of learning. But, it can't hurt, although I wouldn't rely on it.
