Yes. But try to see if anybody else has already gotten her a rosary. Many times, young people will be given more rosaries than they can possibly use. A rosary should be a very special gift, and not something that the young person comes to view as common. As for the appropriateness of a rosary, medal, crucifix, or any other devotional item, how could these things possibly be an inappropriate gift for a Catholic child? I still treasure the religious medals I received in my youth, and the antique rosary I was given.

It's not only appropriate, but traditional. usually the First Communion Rosary is small, and for girls, usually the beads are pearls (or pearl-like as budget permits) or silver. Small, delicate and cute. Stop by the Church's rectory, they usually have a religious goods store with appropriate rosaries for the occaision.
On a side note, most Catholics have more rosaries than they'll ever use. We collect them to mark events or places in our lives. We get them in spades as gifts. Whatever rosary you get for her, make sure it is something that stands out from the crowd..has a story, is made of something different, comes from somewhere special. Though my favorite set of beads is one where the "Our father" beads are triangular and have the mysteries imprinted upon them so I can keep track of which set I'm doing when.

What a great gift! Just the fact that you thought about giving her the gift is wonderful!
And, it is very appropriate! When we give presents at Birthdays and Christmas it is for the enjoyment of the person - things they would like. At religious events, such as Confirmations and First Communions, it is good to give them something that will help them grow in their faith, such as a Bible, or book, or a Rosary.
Giving a child a set of Rosary beads and making them familiar with Mary is one of the best gifts that you can give, because a relationship with Mary is so important to being a Catholic.
Good Choice!
God Bless!

Sure, I think that's a fine gift idea.
Just make sure she is properly instructed on how to pray the Rosary, including especially, emphasis on the 20 Mysteries of the Rosary.
The Mysteries are the hear of the Rosary because they are the heart of the Gospel. Praying the Rosary, albeit properly, is praying the Gospel.

Absolutely! Rosaries are a very traditional 1St Eucharist gift. A book for children on praying the rosary is nice, too.

Yes that would be an appropriate gift as that will help her to learn how to pray the rosary and begin that practice in church before receiving Communion.

It is not even remotely correct for an eight year old girl to be labelled as Catholic in the first place. Religious indoctrination of children is not okay.
