what are the markings on a black and white great dane called?

and dont say spots cuz i know that there is a specific name for them but i cant think of it...

Depends on the specific markings. I believe what you are thinking of is the harlequin pattern, which looks similar to blue merle but without the grey. A mostly black dane with markings similar to a Boston terrier is called a mantle pattern.
