I touched the web of a live black widow spider yesterday and within 30 minutes had all the symptoms of being bitten (nausea, profuse perspiration, dizziness, faintness, tightening of the chest, hands and arms itching like crazy, rash spreading all over, lips swelling)...ended up at urgent care getting steroid shots. I never touched the spider though...I've never had this happen before - seems a little coincidental for it to not have something to do with the web...

You should never touch a venomous spider's web without gloves. You can pick up the toxins by touching the web, spider, or getting bitten. If the web is anywhere near your house, remove it immediately.

Touching a web that you know belongs to a black widow spider can be pretty scary. I'm not surprised that you reacted, and can't figure out why you did it- Unless you didn't see the spider until after the fact.

It is possible that something got stuck to the web that would cause a problem too.
