I wear a white gold ring on my wedding ring finger (with my white gold wedding ring) which has an artificial stone which looks real. When asked if its real I always say yes. Should I be telling the truth or be slightly offended by the question. I would never dream of asking a woman if the stone in her ring is real.

are you embarrassed or ashamed that it's not real?
you shouldn't be offended if you don't care.

say something sarcastic or if you don't want to cause any trouble, then just say that it's real and hopefully the asker will go about their day.

If it makes you happy to say its real say it is. dont be offended by the question a lot of people automatically say that when they see an engagement ring, either as a joke, or to try and nose into your business and see will you volunteer any more information about price and where you bought it etc but purely out of nosiness and not being offensive, and sometimes they are so impressed with the ring that they are in disbelief and just say it without thinking. Believe me i am a hairdresser at least once a week one of our clients comes in engaged and 9 out of 10 times someones reaction will be omg is that real. Said to people we even know are minted so honestly dont be offended. :)

Of course it's real. It's a real ring. It's a real symbol of love. It's a real reminder of the fact that someone loves you.

Asking is rude in the first place. You don't owe anyone an explanation. You can always just say "why do you ask?"

Why would you be offended by the question if your ring isn't real? I mean, I think it is rude for anyone to ask that, don't get me wrong, but if that many people ask, you may consider that your ring doesn't look as real as you think it does. To answer your question-- do whatever you think is right. It might be wrong to ask you about it, but it seems like you want people to think it is real, even though it isn't. Which in my opinion is dishonest. Its totally fine for you to have a stone that isn't real, but ask yourself-- If you are OK with it not being real, why do you lie and say that it is?

I'm in the same boat as you. The stone in my engagement ring isn't a real diamond. I told my fiancee that it doesn't matter to me. The ring is a symbol....the price tag behind it doesn't mean a thing. But when people ask, I tell them it's real....because my fiancee feels guilty about not being able to afford a real diamond. He doesn't want people to know. But to me, a ring is a ring. I know he loves me and he won't leave me, and that's good enough for me! Who needs fancy stuff?

I say be offended. Why on earth are people that deep in your business that they would have the nerve to ask you if your ring is real? It doesn't matter if you're perpetrating. The question is just way too personal.

Just say yes - it is real in that it is there, it is yours, is is made of something tangible, and it has real meaning. The actual material that it is made from is no one's business! It is definitly an offensive question to be asking - how rude!!!

Lol - next time you get asked, look at her shirt and ask "Are those real?" - that will teach her!!!

Yes I would tell the truth. However, I can't imagine someone being so rude as to really ask the question, as the other answerers have said.

i do think it is rude to ask. I swear these days people just don't care anymore. They ask question that are totally none of there business. Like how much you make, how much your house and car cost. I swear I'm getting tired of answering these people. If i was you i would just say " my my my that's very rude of you to ask" and then leave it alone. People have to start minding there own business. I think people have forgotten how to do that. We got to start some where. Next thing u know there going to be asking about your sex life!
