This is a great question.
I love all the no's.
A true believer faced with direction from God should follow that direction, no matter what the order was right?
How can you call yourself a follower and not do the will of God. It is easy to say God wouldn't do that, but that shows that you have never read the OT. God consistently asked the Israelites to go into villages and slaughter every living thing there, including children and animals. Numbers 31 gives a chilling record of some of the things your God is capable of ordering. Asking you to kill your best friend is allot nicer than telling you to murder hundreds of thousands of captured boys and married women.
The God of the bible, Jehovah did this according to your inspired text. He is also unchanging, and doesn't evolve. God very well could ask you to do this again, will you be prepared to answer his call?
Or is this a little too tough? I don't understand why people say they are followers when push comes to shove they wouldn't do Gods will.
Personally I wouldn't kill anyone at the request of a deity, even if that deity appeared before me. My life isn't as valuable as my friends from my perspective.

The time of testing done to Abraham was when most people were still practicing pagan religious rituals that offers blood sacrifices. The One God religion was just newly introduced to Abraham and God would like to know if Abraham would really follow Him. Abraham on the other hand did not even question God why. Since he had been aware of those kind of offerings from previous rituals of pagan religions, he probably thought that God was really like that.
When the angel of God stopped him, it was then that those kind of practices was realized that it has never been in the mind of the real God of Israel. A reason why there was no blood offerings among the Jews in their entire history.
Jesus' offerings of his life for the sinners is never the works of a true God. Only Roman and Greek Catholics will really think about such offerings since they are greatly influenced by their mythical Gods and Godesses.
So, if you will ask me if I will offer my best friend to God, it is a big NO because He will never do that to me. since I am not a Roman nor a Greek.

God was testing Abraham's priorities, his 1st born son whom he dearly loved or obey Him!
Christians often go through the same tests, but in different ways.
Example; Your boyfriend is lying about being a Christian and is a bad influence on you, loose him and follow me?

God doesn't speek in verbatum. Human language has limitations. That doesn't mean I disbelieve the story. I just don't think it's as simple as a word for word dictation like you give to a secretary.

well that wouldn't happen because ever since Jesus was crucified that completely wiped out the whole sacrifice thing. there isn't a need for that anymore. Jesus paid for our sins with his blood, which was why the people sacrificed their lambs and other animals...to pay for their sins.

No, absolutely not. There has already been "the perfect sacrifice" for sin. No other sacrifice is needed. That is the one thing for sure that we can know God will never ask us to do.

I think the local police might have a thing or two to say about that.
God may not change, but society does!

YES!!!!!!!
w/out a doubt.
IF!, it was Jehovah God that sent me,
I trust Him w/ ALL that I am.
Although sacrifice is no longer required,
Jesus handled that 1;
now it's obedience, that He wants .
