Hi there I am a Veterinarian Technician and hope to help! Vets do and will perform the spay (complete ovarian-hysterectomy: ovaries and uterine removal) even if a dog is pregnant if owners request it. Sometimes owners don't even know their dogs are pregnant and we sadly find out once we open the uterus up in surgery. Your question is an excellent one! If the puppies are old enough to live outside the uterus, then we offer them to the owner. If the owner does not want to care for the puppies then we supplement them with formula and adopt them out once they are 10 weeks old. However, it is not uncommon for other Vets to humanely euthanize the puppies if the owner of the dog does not want to keep them. If the puppies are too young to live outside of the uterus and have a heartbeat, then we humanely euthanize. I hope this helps!

It depends on how far into gestation the dog is. If the puppies are viable, meaning they can live outside the uterus, they will be humanely euthanised if they aren't wanted.

If the puppies aren't viable, they remain with the uterus.

Vets WILL spay a pregnant dog. Terminating an unwanted pregnancy is better than bringing a litter of puppies into the world that aren't wanted. Especially when there are so many homeless dogs and puppies already here waiting for homes.

Most vets will NOT spay a dog in heat however, unless it is an emergency. Dogs in heat when spayed have the possibility of more complications such as excessive bleeding due to all the extra blood flow to the uterus during a heat cycle.

If it is in the beginning of gestation they will take them out and leave them in the sac then discard with the harzardous material trash. If they are viable they euthanise them will an overdoes of babirtuates (if the vet has good ethics). But it is very costly and dangerous to the mother.

You should not have the dog spayed while she is pregnant. What specificially happens to the unborn puppies is that they will be killed. Period. End of sentence.

I don't believe a vet will do the operation while the dog is pregnant. Consult with your vet to find out their policies and procedures on this.

I have heard they wouldn't do it while pregnant.
