Hi - The Bible is very clear on this. It says that everything was created in 6 days.

Labgirl - you're wrong about most Christians being OK with evolution. what is your source for that info?

it's no problem at all. If the pope can accept evolution so can you. Only if you take the bible literally it's a problem. If you look at fables (e.g. aesops fables) do you really think there are foxes and crows talking? That doesn't mean that whatever moral value those stories teach you are wrong or valueless. The best teaching is done with the help of a good story, but if you take the story as the literal truth you actually miss the essential point of it. So you are most likely a much better christian if you can value evolutionary theory than if not.

Many people, from evolutionary biologists to important religious figures like Pope John Paul II, contend that the time-tested theory of evolution does not refute the presence of God. They acknowledge that evolution is the description of a process that governs the development of life on Earth. Like other scientific theories, including Copernican theory, atomic theory, and the germ theory of disease, evolution deals only with objects, events, and processes in the material world. Science has nothing to say one way or the other about the existence of God or about people's spiritual beliefs.

You can be a Christian and believe in evolution, but you cannot resolve the conflict between evolution and the Bible.

Genesis teaches that "death" came into the world as a result of "sin". For the wages of sin is death. To believe in evolution is to say that death (at least in animals) had to exist before man. If death existed before man sinned, then how is it that we need a savior, someone who conquered sin and death on our behalf? For through one man, Adam, sin entered the world, and all men are condemned to death. But through one man, Jesus Christ, all men can enter into life. Evolution is anit-christian, and it's sole purpose is the destruction of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

But don't take my word for it. Look at this quote from a prominent atheist.

“Christianity has fought, still fights, and will continue to fight science to the desperate end over evolution, because evolution destroys utterly and finally the very reason Jesus’ earthly life was supposedly made necessary. Destroy Adam and Eve and the original sin, and in the rubble you will find the sorry remains of the Son of God. If Jesus was not the redeemer who died for our sins, and this is what evolution means, then Christianity is nothing.”

G. Richard Bozarth, ‘The Meaning of Evolution’, American Atheist, p. 30. 20 September 1979.

There are answers to your many questions. Don't be afraid of Science, for it more often agrees with a Biblical perspective. Just don't let people say something is Science when it is nothing more that theory and wishful thinking.

A LOT OF GOOD ANSWERS IN THIS RECENT THREAD: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Asl082prHtykqndN1q9BsIDty6IX?qid=20070421084128AAgKTjh&show=7#profile-info-wbTlXuDgaa

When people think of evolution they immediately, and basically automatically link it with Darwin and his theories which most have come to know as "evolution". In reality this is incorrect.

Personally I consider evolution to be more along the lines of adaptation. Beings will adapt to their surrounds and circumstances and very well may have to "evolve" a bit in a sense due to this to survive. So, in this sense yes, it is possible for Christians to believe in evolution.

However, in that "evolution" being considered that all species are derived from single cell organisms, water creatures, and humans from monkeys is complete blasphemy and in that sense no, it really is not possible that Christians can believe in "evolution". Hope that makes sense for you.

If your religious beliefs are actually true, you have nothing to fear from the natural truths revealed by science. Genuine truth cannot conflict with genuine truth. We know from mountains of incontrovertible evidence that biological evolution is a fact. Yes, I know, it is technically a "theory", just as the existence of atoms is a "theory", but for all practical purposes it is a fact. So, if your personal interpretations of the Bible don't agree with the known facts, then in all likelihood your biblical interpretations are simply wrong! This should hardly be a surprise since your biblical interpretations conflict not only with known truths of science, but also with the biblical interpretations of hundreds of other Christian groups. Since truth cannot conflict with truth, we therefore know that many of the beliefs held by various Christian groups are objectively false. Therefore such false beliefs are likely to conflict with all kinds of genuine truths, both religious and scientific.

I am a practising catholic and have been for more years than I care to count, and I believe vary strongly in evolution, I find people that believe in Adam & Eve are simply fanatic religious lunitics that have vary little common sense or logic, I also know of many preasts, and theologens that would support my comments, unfortunately most religious people today simply cannot accept the truth of how mankind was created, they simply live their lives out of a book that has so much controversy in it's contents it simply blows ones mind. may God bless all those that are blinded by their own kind.

I believe that God fashioned our DNA in Heaven and had everything in mind that he created just as any inventor does. I further believe based on genetic evidence that God used primate DNA as a template for our own. But I do NOT believe that we were created by time and nature. To believe evolutionary theory as atheists do, you cant believe in Scripture and God had nothing to do with us being here.

Evolution is just another trick up the sleave of atheists to try to get as many people doubting the Bible as possible in order to achieve a secular society.

No, you are not 'wrong.' There is nothing inherently contradictory between Christianity and evolution. On the contrary, Christian theologians were the first to insist that the creation account in Genesis was allegorical. The world's largest Christian denomination advocates theistic evolution.

Evolution does not say that god does not exist. BUT, it is not possible for us to have evolved from ape-like ancestors AND to have been created by god. It has to be one or the other.

You either believe in what can be seen and tested, or you have faith that god exists and hope that some middle Eastern guys 2000 years ago wrote the truth.
