There was this bully in 1st grade. (Almost 30 years ago now!) And I went to sit at my desk and the chair fell off and I landed on the floor. Everyone was laughing at me, so I blamed Jerry. He had nothing to do with it, but still got in trouble.

Luckily he moved, but a bunch of us former classmates were invited to the reception. He remembers it too, but we laughed about it.

Well... being younger than dirt but older than the mountains, I cannot recall the first time I lied.

But I do remember the first time I was "caught up" in someone ELSE's lie. Although I can't recall how old I was, it had to be before the age of 5. My older brother or sister had done something wrong and neither of them would "fess up" to it. My father, being a disciplinarian, said that if no one was going to tell the truth, then ALL of us were going to be punished... and thus, I got a spanking along with my brother and sister. I was so upset because I knew I was NOT the guilty party... had I known I would have "told" on them, afterall, I was the family tattletale!

So there you have at least some tale of the "lie."

I got mad at my cousin and kicked her. When she started to scream, I ran down the stairs ahead of her and yelled, "Uh- Uh! I did NOT kick Angie! She fell down!" I got in SO MUCH trouble for lying- (not for kicking)!!!!!!
