What is the fastest way for me to obtain a passport in Canada? I just learned I may be needing to fly to Nebraska as soon as May 15th, and I dont have a passport. I could drive to the states and take a domestic flight, but would much prefer to just fly out of Toronto.........What are my options??

Most of the information is on their website. But it isn't very accurate. It says the basic wait is 3 weeks if you go to their office. But I know someone who applied 4 weeks ago and haven't got it. I applied by mail 12 weeks ago, no luck. It said up to 9 weeks at the time. The best you can do is go to the site and fill in everything thoroughly, and get all your requirements together and get it in as soon as possible.

There are a couple of rush options, for a cost obviously. You are best to ask when applying. An Urgent on is available. But you have to qualify. It sounds mostly for going to a funeral, visiting someone who is dying, or you need to see a specialist.

Once you mailed it in, I don't think there is much you can do to speed it up. You would have had to go travel to an office and wait all day in line to get it faster - about a month. But, for a comparison, I mailed mine and got it back after 14 weeks. The wait at the time said 9 weeks, and they increased it to 10 many weeks after I applied. I didn't hear a thing until after 12 weeks when they mailed back my birth certificate and a receipt. When I got it, the passport was issued from Halifax, so obviously redirected as all my previously mailed applications have always been issued from the Ottawa area, same as where it was mailed to. Halifax, being the furthest possible office away from me. But, I can see where it might be the least busy office. So now, I'm flying to Las Vegas!! :)

As far as I know it takes two weeks if you go to the federal passport office. You should check with different airline companies. I heard that no Canadian with a valid I.D. (drivers licence and birth certificate) was refused entry into the U.S. even if it was by plane.
Officially you need a passport to go by plane to the U. S.

There are the urgent passports, but they are really only being issued for emergencies...like death in family.

You could try your local Member of Parliament. That is your best bet, they can pull some strings if the need is there.
