Swimming is a great way to help you get fit. However you are barking up the wrong tree if you want exercise to be easy. You see the problem is that if you find something easy it means it is not pushing you enough. If it is not pushing you then the benefits will be a lot less. To be honest the quickest way to get fit and tone up and lose excess body fat is to pick the exercise that you find the hardest and in turn probably like the least and that is the exercise for you. You will see much better results because your body has to work that much harder. For me it is the stepper in the gym, I hate it but it is the one that works for me. I know it is probably not what you wanted to hear but I hope this has helped some. Good Luck

Before my work schedule changed, I used to go to the pool 3-4 mornings per week. I found that it gave me much more of a whole body workout vs. leg workout I get from walking/running. For me, swimming is much more taxing on my body, and it seems like I need to be more in shape to swim. I think swimming will certainly tone your flabby body parts, as long as you keep with it and don't give up after 2 weeks or so. Even if you don't see results immediatly, stick with it for over a month--then analyze the results. Measure your body before you begin swimming, then measure the same areas (stomach, thighs, arms, hips, etc.) after one month, two months, etc.
Good luck!

I have been a swimmer pretty much all of my life (so almost 20 years, haha), and it is one of the few sports that work all different sorts of muscles all over your body. Plus it's in the water, so it's ten times as more fun! :) I don't like jogging/running because it bores me, only works out a few select muscles, and I have a bad knee. Have someone who works at the pool give you tips about the different strokes (backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly) and different drills that you can do. Even just doing the kicking for butterfly works out your abs and legs, and stretches the entire length of your body. Good luck sweetie, and let me know if you need any more suggestions about swimming!

I know exactly where you are coming from. I have been running now for about 10 years, 2 marathons about 50 half marathons and goodness knows how many 10k races, my shape is still the same.(just with a little more muscle). I think that we are what we are. Swimming may help because it tones more of you, but I think you may need to do a lot of it,like about 4 times a week for 45Min's. Sorry I don't want to sound negative, but I know because have been there.

I swim and I personally find it just as good if not better than jogging. It's also better for you as your whole body gets a work out.
Try it and see it all depends on what is right for you but I can defiantly recommend swimming as a sport I'm in a swimming club and training is great fun.

swimming and running are both great forms of exercise. one is not better than the other in terms of weight loss. however in terms of fat loss the exercise that "you" can perform at a higher level of intensity will be the best for your program. when you exercise at a higher level of intensity not only are more calories burned during exercise but there will be a greater increase in the resting metabolic rate for a longer duration after exercise. this is called the after-burn effect or the EPOC. the body expends energy trying to return the body to the pre-exercise state. this causes an excess of oxygen to be utilized which causes the increase in the metabolic rate, which of course increase fat burning. training at 75% of the VO2max for 60-80 minutes is optimum for fat loss.

also, if you are getting plenty of exercise and still not seeing weight loss then the problem lies in your diet. you are either still consuming too many calories or not consuming enough of the right foods

A combination of the two works best for me, I do gym 4/5 times and swim twice. Seems to slender me down after about 3weeks.

swimming is excellent excercise. It will firm up your arms, and stomach, but not so much your legs. Of course you can do some on'land workouts before swimming too!
i am a swimmer myself and feel very healthy and firm (usually)
