Usually, an adolescent is a teenager or pre-teen but I don't know how old this kid is that you are referring to. If it's a kid over 12, I know that 300mg of Jr. Motrin would have done NOTHING for me. I used to have cramps when I was 11 and need to take at least 5 Advil to dull the pain which is 1000mg.

My dentist used to give me Tylenol #2 (with Codeine) once I was over 10 years old. Tylenol #2 has the lowest amount of Codeine (15mg) as opposed to #'s 3 and 4. They may have a Tylenol #1 with 8mg of Codeine. I think the 15mg of Codeine is coupled with 300mg of acetaminophen (but I'm not positive on that). These are all by prescription only in the US.
I was also at least 5'3" and weighed about 120 lbs at 10 or 11 years old. The dentist would tell me to take 1 every 4-6 hours. I could take a second one within that time frame if I was in extreme pain but I never needed it. Other than that, 800mg of Ibuprofen was often prescribed to me as well.
