I have worn glasses as long as I can remember, 40 now. I have been training in martial arts since I was 12. (not taking any low shot at any martial arts here) Most of the time there is little or no contact to the face or any falling, this however, depends on the style of martial arts. I train with glasses during my Aikido. I fall and roll with them on (my normal every day glasses) I have had them bent and broke a few times but that's the risk you take. I also train in MMA and B.J.J. , now while doing this I always remove my glasses.
Contacts could be an alter. but they could fall out, then there gone. You could get special glasses made for sports or even have an extra "throw away" pair to use during class, then if they bend or break who cares. My thoughts are, I am more into realism and street defense, I wont be able to remove my glasses during a fight so I try to train as I would do in real life. A normal "karate" class, the majority of the time I don't see any problem. Only during sparing, I'd remove them.

I'm near sighted, and I use contacts in most cases. I'm almost blind without my glasses, and some times I end up in class with my glasses on. I have to take them off for the training, but I don't feel any major difference when sparring or training. Body and fists are big enough to be seen even with my bad eyes. My only problem is that I can't really see people's expression, but not a major problem. The only major problem I have is with the blue heavy bag in the gym. The color and the lighting makes it hard to judge the distance without my contacts. I sometimes land my punches before or after I expect my fists to land and that sends shock to my elbow or shoulder sometimes.

I had the pleasure of working out with the first blind recipient of a black belt in my art.
I wear glasses as well but do not require them while training. I would try one of two things. Wear your glasses and protect them with a strap to hold them on and let folks know you require them while training. If you practice a contact sport like Karate you may not be able to spar as much as you would like. If you grapple then you can learn to grapple without glasses, all you need to do is feel your opponent.

If you choose laser surgery, there will be a certain amount of time that you have to avoid all contact due to the risk of permanent eye injury.
Glasses and contacts are ok for practicing forms and working out, but you cant wear them or goggles when sparring, for obvious reasons.
Training without glasses may be your best alternative, if you aren't totally blind without them.
I had Radial Keratotomy surgery on both eyes. This was the surgery they did before they came out with the Laser. I had to avoid all contact for one year.

hi there, i wear glasses, have to wear them all day every day. iv worn them since i was old enough to put them on my face.
i train in karate, jujitsu and ninjitsu. i never take my glasses off. this is becuase i train as a self defence, not as a sport. think about why you want to take the class,
if its for a sport, then invest in some sports goggle glasses (very expensive) or go for some contact lenses,
if its for self defense...then keep them on. i do.
yes i fully understand the risks, thats why i train extra hard at blocking my face. even when im being thrown i still exorsize a certain degree of control to look after myself, and my glasses.
dont ever let anything hold you back. when you start people shouldnt be coming in at you hard. as you progress in your art you should now whether it is a martial art you feel confident in keeping your glasses on or off.
hope that helped you.

Not contacts aren't. My brother wears glasses and we both go to TKD. There are also a lot of people that go to our class that wear glass. But you should probably take them off for sparring (because of getting sweat all over them).
Just wear your glasses, it will be find.

I wear glasses to TKD, and the only time I take them off in class is when I spar or do self defense training.
But, if it makes you feel better, then get contacts.

Depending on what martial arts it is, it might be a non contact sport such as karate so there will be no worries of them being broken or falling off when you are practicing.
However if it is contact such as kick boxing, then yes contacts would be better.

Some people in our class (aikido) wear glasses, others (like me) remove them. Depends on how comfortable you are with or without glasses. Shouldn't be a big problem either way.
