I'm just wondering because I have a dog and it is the law to pick up after him. If there are no plastic bags, how will we do that?

San Francisco has just banned the use of plastic bags and where I live they are discussing a similar ban. I was curious how people were going to abide by the law. I see that people are suggesting the biodegradable bags that they sell in pet stores, but I am concerned about the cost.

I'm confused about where you heard that plastic bags are going to be banned, but okay.. Working on the assumption that they were, there are biodegradable products available for cleaning up after dogs. One is a cardboard contraption that has a scoop, you scoop the poop up into the cardboard container and then use a tab on the side that does not come into contact with the ground or the poop to close it all up, it has a handle, you carry it with you until you can toss it. I've used these before, they can be found in most pet supply stores and are wonderful. This is the only non-plastic baggie type that I have seen, although I am sure there are others if you look for them.. and if plastic baggies become illegal at some point in the future, then the market for other options will, of course, become bigger and people will invent other options to fill that market. So don't worry. There are and will be ways to pick up after your dog if (and I think this is a big if) plastic bags become illegal in our lifetimes. :)

Well for starters San francisco is a country all it's own they are way to the left of center it' seems to be a city run by rebellious children
But anyway I guess you will have to pick it up with one of those old type pooper scoopers I personally prefer the plastic bag
They are supplied for us dog owners where I live in our apt community
Or you could just move

I think that I might have heard of this "ban" but thought it was limited to the plastic bags they offer at grocery stores. If it's something that effects your area, and it's more inclusive than just the shopping bags, then you may have to go paper, or bite the bullet on the cost of bio-bags. If this isn't something that effects your area yet, don't worry too much about now. I'm sure you have enough stress going on in life than to worry about something that hasn't happened yet. :-)

There are biodegradable plastic baggies made for picking up after your dog that should not be affected by the ban.

Get a package of the brown lunch bags. They're inexpensive.
God, I'm glad I don't live in San Francisco. Why is everyone so uptight?????

Use paper bags (lunch bags). I find then to be more effective anyway, you just roll then down to make a firm rim aroung the bag, then use the rim like a shovel. Works like a charm!!

Back in the old days, bags were made of paper. Before that, bags were made of leather, cloth, or leaves and other raw plant material. I don't anticipate a day when we run out of that.
