Hmm, if its a clean install then it cant be virus/spyware related. I would suggest formating and reinstalling again. Never heard of a problem like that. What processes are running when you Ctrl-Alt-Del?

Most times (not always) a freeze is due to RAM overload or our typing a couple of commands too quickly. First, try to release as much RAM as possible, then check your Start Menu to see how many programs you are loading. I recommend keeping these to a minimum - those you need daily.

Additionally, I would set wallpaper and desktop to blank or none - at least until you get rid of the freeze. Then you can try reloading things one at a time. If you run into trouble, uninstall that which lead to the freeze.

cl Start Menu, cl Customize, cl Remove.
cl the icon for the program you wish to remove
then cl Remove.
There is also a “Disable All” button.
This will prevent the program from loading at startup, but will not remove the program from the hard disk.

If these do not release the freeze, you can try a Windows repair.
