It is a symbolic number. Six is the number of man, three is the number of the Trinity. You can see this with the antichrist, the false prophet, and the beast--that is, man making himself out to be the godhead.

According to Revelation, it is the hand OR the forehead.

There are several marks that the Bible gives to identify who the Beast power of Rev. 13 is. One is the number 666.

Read Rev. 13:18. Bible prophesy has told us the Antichrist beast has a man at its head. That man is the one who speaks for it. The Latin alphabet is used by the Chruch and Rome. Roman letters have numerical value. Every person's name also has a number because of the Roman alphabet having numerical value. God is simply telling us it is the number of a man, and his number is 666.

In the officail Roman Catholic weekly magzine, Our Sunday Visitor, April 18, 1915, in the question and answer colomn: "What are the letters inscribed in the Pope's crown, and what do they signify if anything." Here's the answer given accordng to the Catholic magazine itself: "the letters inscribed in the Pope's miter are these: VICARIOUS FILII DEI which is the Latin for Vicar of the Son of God."

This name is one of the most exalted titles of the Roman pontiff and is the official name of the Pope. Computing the value of the Roman Numerals, we get:

The symbol 666 refers to the beast power.

All governments use seals consisting of a name, title, and territory. The seal is not literal or visible. Your forehead represents your mind where you make decisions. When you choose God, His name and law is symbolically written in your mind. The Mark of the Beast is the counterfeit of that. If we choose to sin against God then we recieve the mark of the beast in our minds.

What is the mark? It's his "seal" in your forehead, do you carry his stigma. Are you deceived by his deception? For you either have "GOD's seal" Rev 7 or the "mark of the Beast/satan" in your forehead.

Whats the name of the beast? Its blaspheme, to call satan Jesus. His number is 666 not 888, because he comes in thee 6th trumpet, 6th seal, 6th vial.

"count the number of the beast". Written in Greek, and the Greek word means more then counting numbers. You simple can't understand this meaning if you don't understand this Greek word. The word is #5585 in Strong's Greek dictionary, and it means to "calculate by counting the stones that are warn smooth over a long period of time.

We are to trace Cains descendents, who are the same tares Matt 13, the vipers Christ addressed in John 8, the kenites, throughout the Bible and down throughout history from the garden of Eden to present day.

I make no claim to have studied the rendering of these verses in Greek, however I do make claim to be Spirit taught, and believe I have been given insight by the Lord because my heart is open and teachable. I John 2:27

The time is coming when a great world leader will arise in Europe and he will rule the ten nation confederacy that now exists in that area of the world. Recently Greece became the tenth nation to join
after refusing to join for some time. This confederacy prophesied by God's prophets thousands of years ago is one of the signs of the end of time and the return of Christ. The Bible says he will be a man that Satan enters into and will be the incarnation of evil as Christ was the incarnation of God. Therefore he is known as the Anti-Christ!

He will have power above any other man on earth and will have a prophet of his own who will show great signs and wonders in the earth so that people will fall down and worship him.

He will also require that everyone take a mark identifying them as his servants. This mark is to be either in the person's right hand or forehead. Exactly what this mark consists of I don't know. Some
think it is the computer chip currently being considered to put under people's skins, some think it will be a computerized number stamped on people's hands or foreheads with lasers or another technology, and others believe what they will. To me that is not the important thing. I know that the Bible says no person can buy or sell who doesn't have the mark. The number 666 is the number
of a man from a study of scriptural numbers. I will go no further than that.

Revelations Chapter 14 says that they who receive this mark will face the wrath of God , and shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb; and the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever, and they shall have no rest day or night who worship the beast and his image and receive the mark of his name.

My conclusion is this: All who will be willingly ignorant will receive the mark because they will have their hearts prepared to accept the deception of the Anti-Christ. God has given us His warning thousands of years ahead so that there is no excuse for not hearing and obeying His word. The wise will turn their lives from sin to Christ in humble repentance and have power to refuse the mark if they live through the time of his coming. (That is a study in itself). Those who have no power with Christ will have no power over the devil coming in this man.

one interpratation: In biblical days, they used number codes. The name Nero (in their spelling) translated into 666. So many biblical scholars believes that 'revelations' relates to Nero's persecution of Christians the the great fire the engulfed Rome and was blamed on Christians.

Another interpretation, the holy trinity (father son holy ghost) is 3. 3X3, 3 times is 999. 999 would be the holy number. So inverting it (like an inverted cross) is 666. Don't know if I believe this one as I believe the Romans used roman numerals. So go figure.

So it's the forehead OR the right hand, not both.

As far as calculating the Antichrist's name based on the number, this is a reference to Hebrew gematria. (There's a fairly good article on gematria at Wikipedia if you want to know more.) Remember, the Bible was given to us by Jews, so it would be nonsensical to use any other method of understanding this reference than a Jewish one.

The book of Revelation is a highly symbolic book. That means that everything you read is symbolic of something else. This book was written to provide comfort to the saints who were martyred on behalf od the Lord and to keep the enemies of Christ from knowing the plans that God was going to carry out to avenge the blood of those saints. the term 666 is a symbol for those who oppose the cross of Christ and fight against Him. If you are a Christian you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and God knows you belong to Him. If you are not a Christian, then you are living for Satan. These are not literal marks in the head or hand that can be seen. The way you live your life determines whether you are marked for God or Satan. We have the freedom to choose who we will serve.
