Thanx 4 ur answers. He has been to the vet as this came last year also and been checked for mange and fungal diseases and had blood test and all was clear(thankfully). The vet said it's a 'seasonal condition' and to give him oil capsules,so we do.I just wondered if there was any other way of helping him.

Since it's a seasonal problem, ask your vet if you can give him Benedryl. For the skin, I'd use a lotion without any perfumes, dyes...Oatmeal baths will also help him feel better.
Good job as a responsible dog owner. Most don't go to the vet. They either don't want to or can't afford it. Good luck with your dog.

Have you been to the vet about this? Dry skin alone is not too difficult to sort out, their are medicated shampoos available the same as there are with people, some that you can get from the vets without a prescription.

The hair loss is a bit more of a worry, this isn't usually? caused by dry skin alone. I would suggest a trip to the vet to get this checked in case there's a specific cause. Dry skin can be a symptom of a skin problem rather than a cause of hair loss. There's not a lot of point in grabbing a dry skin shampoo off the shelf if there's something else going on there. I'm not saying it is something more sinister than dry skin, but worth a check I'd say.

Take him to the vet for an exam. If he's losing fur, it could be anything from parasites or a skin infection to an allergy or a symptom of illness. A good vet can examine him & do some tests to determine the cause & recommend appropriate treatment.

We need to know more. How old is he? Is he itchy? Has he got fleas? Can he be in contact with fox mange? ...etc

Young staffies get a mite called demodex giving them a very dry skin an hair loss with little disconfort/itching.

Sounds like mange... you will need medicine for it. It is serious and can result in death, so you need to get him checked out at the vet right away.

There could be other causes of this as well, but only a vet will be able to tell.

One type of mange can be transmitted to people, so it's pretty important to get rid of it right away.

could be a grain allergy. Check with a vet on his recomendations and to rule out things like a mange, but it could be as simple as changing his food to one with no soy or wheat. Food allergies are on the rise for dogs as we insist on feeding them processed foods. Kinda like people.
