get my cat to eat less beings that I live with my boyfriend's mom ~ she feeds ALL the cats, we have 3 in the house & she puts out a BIG bowl of dry food for ALL day & she feeds them wet food every morning ~ my cat eats ALL damn day on the dry food ~ his mom will NOT take anything away, how can I get around this?

The best way is of course to stop your guy's mom doing this - tell her it isn't natural for cats to have a constant supply of food. In the wild they get separate meals (like 2 or 3 mice a day), having food readily available will just make them lazy, and extremely fat.
If your mom-in-law-to-be just won't stop, perhaps you could convince her to switch to a diet food. This at least is more appropriate to be fed in larger quantities - Hills r/d is best (if they're already fat, or Hills w/d if they aren't YET), it won't hurt the cats who don't eat all day to eat it too. Comes in dry and wet form, or at least just get some kind of diet food from a pet shop.
To try to get this lady to change her ways, start nagging about how unhealthy and mean it is to let a cat get fat - contrary to popular belief, being fat does NOT make a cat happy. They're supposed to be lithe and supple and able to jump about all over the place! I've known a few spiteful cats who perk up and become more affectionate when they've slimmed down. Tell her the cat won't live as long if it becomes fat (fact) and if she really loves it she won't kill it with kindness etc etc etc. Who knows, maybe she'll stop just to shut you up, that's the approach I use! Put the cat in your room and feed it yourself. You won't be able to let it out, though, or it will go straight for the food. I'd forget about the canned food and give your cat dry food only, according to the recommendations on the bag. Feed half in the morning and half at night. If your cat is overweight you can get "diet" food, but be aware that cats need to lose weight very slowly.

Cats are realllyyyy smart. Your cat will check out the bowl of food each time it is passed by,but will not eat more than is needed. Uh Do you have a girl or boy cat? Some of the best people I know are cats. Joan K

dont leave the cat food out all day - they dont need it.
feed them once in the morning, once at night, and feed them seperately. this way you wont have the one cat eating the others food.
she will save money in general, the food wont go off and her cats wont get fat.

You don't usually have to worry about cats over eating ( unlike dogs ) I don't know if her cats are Fatcats or not... cats are nibblers thru-out the day & night... short of caging or locking your cat in a room, there's not much you can do to seperate them..Take Care :)

buy science diet W/D its a weight control food
low calorie and makes them feel full with less food intake
be careful the cats could become diabetic or have other obesity problems.
