A jealous God shows in a most expressive manner the love of God to this people. He felt for them as the most affectionate husband could do for his spouse; and was jealous for their worship and fidelity, because he willed their invariable happiness.
God is also perfectly jealous of His own honor and glory, and will not give it to another; even to graven images, nor suffer it to be given to them without resenting it.
And jealousy is fierce and cruel, and breaks forth into great wrath, and issues in dreadful scenes oftentimes among men; as a man that has reason to be jealous of his wife, and especially if he takes her and the adulterer in the fact, it often costs them both their lives, being so enraged at such an insult upon him, and such a violation of the marriage bed.
Thus the great God of Israel, their head and husband, is represented, in order to deter from idolatry, or spiritual adultery, than which nothing could be more provoking to Him.

There is a differene between jealousy and envy. Envy is not okay, but jealousy is.
Jealousy is like when you already have the prize and are jealous of the other people wanting what you have. When the Bible says that he is a jealous God, he is refering to the false gods people have instead of him.
Envy is a sin. This is when you covet what someone else has.

God is holy so it's a holy jealousy---one you couldn't relate to because you only understand human jealousy. Would you be jeolous if your kid decided to follow and love someone else in your place and reject you? A spouse? It grieves Him.

The word jealous, when it relates to God is not a human jealousy. It is not ego centered and sinful. It speaks of God's rightful ownership of man and also His right to expect our loyalty.

He's ok with me.
I love HIm and I am flattered that He is jealous and wants to be my number one.
Although you must understand He is far above the petty jealousy or anger that humans express.

It doesn't mean jealous like a lover. It means jealous like a parent over influences over their child. More like protective.
