Absolutely. They need to avoid any product that may contain alcohol. Read labels. Plenty of non-alcohol cold and flu meds available. Talk to your pharmacist - he can recommend a suitable replacement without the alcohol.

YES!!! Nyquil is 25% alcohol...it's one of the medications that recoverying alcoholics should not use as it will turn on the craving for alcohol. Maybe that craving won't show up for a few days but shortly your friend may want more and more nyquil. That happened to me. I thought I still had a cold for a month after it was over. Nyquil will trigger alcoholic cravings. You won't crave alcohol unless you drink alcohol and Nyquil is alcohol. It's not so much the "taste" of alcohol but the alcohol itself that turns the cravings on. A recovering alcoholic must be very careful as to what they take for meds. As a pharmacist, I have seen over the years alcoholics buying several bottles of Nyquill and I doubt they had a perpetual cold. The new non-alcohol formulas of cold medicines would be the only acceptable ones for an alcoholic.

Possibly,Vick's,NyQuil they are straight alcohol,so if say for instance if your probation officer were to horrify you with a unexpected"pop in" and you just self medicated, then you would test positive for alcohol. It is best to air on the safe side with that kind of stuff and get the dm,its drug and alcohol free and it actually works a heck of allot better.

Nyquil is like 70 proof.. it's not a 'small' amount... it is about a third or more alcohol...
I've heard that AA will drop someone if they even use mouthwash that has alcohol... and that is spitting it out.

I just got over a cold where I was using NyQuil. The Cherry Flavor didn't remind me of drinking booze at all.

I cannot imagine relapsing into alcoholism after taking Nyquil.
Even though the alcohol content is high....the taste is horrible.
The effects wouldn't be the same either in my opinion.
I guess anything is possible, but that would be real desperation...but all in all I guess desperation and alcoholism go hand in hand.

That cold medicine is 19% alcohol. Not a good plan try the non-drowsy, non alcohol varieties popular now.

yes, in fact it is common for alcoholics to try to fool themselves that they are recovering when all they have done is switch over to cough medicine containing alcohol. A recovering alcoholic must avoid all forms of alcohol.

My aunt's ex-husband used to drink NyQuil, mouthwash and even perfume. So yes I would say so.
