The sun basically provides energy for everything or nearly everything on Earth. There is some energy in the Earth's core which causes volcanic and related activity. But basically the sun causes global warming. Block out the sun and there goes our heat. Too much sun and the heat goes up. The amount of sunlight that is truly too much or too little is not really defined. Some believe we are or will be getting too much. At this point it is only a belief and not a proven fact.
Another point of view: the sun provided energy for plants and animals. The animals and plants lived, died and decayed. Therein we get coal, oil and other fuels. Releasing the energy from these fuels releases the energy originally provided by the sun. Hence, we are back to the sun causing global warming.

Gene is the only one with a clue. Global warming has been happening for 6000 years with some minor ups and downs. We are currently in an up. From the 1950s to 70s we were in a cold spell. Every warm or cold period brings the Chicken Littles running for cover. It is really a sad thing that so many buy into it.

as far as i know.. the global warming occurs when the UV ray enters the earth via ozone(O3) layer but trap in earth because of CO(carbon monoxide) layer.. the theory is like greenhouse effect.. heat from sunlight enters the glasshouse but the heat trapped inside because of the glass cannot release the heat...
the CO layer is getting thicker and O3 is getting thiner everyday in our world..it is because we produce a lot of carbons emmission everyday and the C take one of the O in O3 to become CO..

Co2 emmitions (polution due to energy consumption mostly)
eg: cars factories
people cutting down forests that ares suppose to get rid of the co2 emmitions

Here are the main factors, in a simple chart. It is based on extensively verified and peer reviewed data. The sun is about 10% of it.
