I have just received my Labs back and my Rheumatoid Factor is STILL high at 77.2 IU/ml normal is between 0 - 12.5 Anyone know what the risks are from having a persisently HIGH Rheumatoid Factor Count, out side of the obvious Rheumatoid Arthritis!

While high amounts of this auto-antibody are often found in people with active cases of rheumatoid arthritis, they may also be the result of Sjögren’s syndrome or other inflammatory conditions such as: endocarditis, systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus), tuberculosis, syphilis, sarcoidosis, cancer, viral infection, liver disease, lung disease, or kidney disease. Your doctor may want to run some other tests to determine if there is a different reason for your high rheumatoid factor.

Usually the count has to be over 20 for them to even start to suspect RA. Again if say the count is 30, they will ask for a repeat in 3 months, just to see if it has increased or decreased. Mine started at 25 and the highest it was 125, but is now ticking over at 79. I am not sure where you are getting your figures from? The reference range is usually 1-20. Or it can be written as 1/120. By itself it means nothing many people test positive some are false positive! However you need symptoms and other blood tests like C Reactive Protein, ESR, CBC to be read with the RF and symptoms.
