I am not an atheist, but I am not a Judeo-Christian-Muslim (one godder).

I am frequently amused by theists observing rituals for other religions and not noting that their religion forbids it. Rituals and superstitions often continue long after a population changes faith. Sometimes a local faith integrates rituals from an older religion into the faith of a new one, and other times the religions are blended and hybrided.

It is even more amusing when a religion initially did not forbid certain activity at first but later dogma did, and then finally the people start doing it again, so it becomes acceptable.
As an example, Astrology was an acceptable practice to many early Christian cultures (especially if it was done by a priest), then later it became forbidden, then later became popular again.

Some certainly do. Being atheist only means you don't believe in god(s), not that you don't believe in the supernatural or other unexplainable things and making a "wish" doesn't mean you truly believe it will come true. It can be just for fun.

[Though many atheists do fail to believe in other unexplainable things for the lack of evidence, this does not apply to all atheists.]

Yeah I do. It's fun. No harm done by it and it's kinda a sign of respect of all the cultures that worshipped water nymphs/gods/spirits.

(Sometimes I used to pretend that there was a mermaid that would come out of the well and give me my wish--but it was all in good fun. I knew Ariel was a cartoon)

And I don't tell anyone b/c if you tell them your wish won't come true.

Then I do every in my power to make that wish come true!

Only if I know the fountain/well is collected for charity and not for the benefit of the owner.

Silly little rituals can make a person smile, even if they are laughable.

Heck, it's that they're laughable that makes people smile.

Since I don't carry cash, no. I think the last time I did it I was with a boy I tak care of and I told him to throw it in, I didn't tell him to make a wish. Come to think of it, that didn't even enter my mind.

No, i haven't done that since i was a kid...... when i went to church & fell for the fairy tale stories.

Wishing wells & fountains are childish fantasies in the hope that just by "praying" for something to happen it will happen. Adults SHOULD know better than that, but they don't...... Fairy tales are not real.

For one year take all your wishes and prayers and write them down on a piece of paper then place the paper in a jar. For everyone that comes true take it out and place it in a second jar. Get back to me in a year and tell me which one is more full.
