If she's out doors please get her neutered why have any more unwanted kittens, they were out side so they didn't survived. Do you know that white cats are mostly deaf, or so I've been told., any ways don't touch the kittens until they have their eyes open and are doing well on their own because if you handle them too soon the mother cat may disown them. so just wait let them get a little older.

As long as the cat trusts you, it should be alright to pet them on day 1. First make sure all of the cat's needs are taken care of, (food, water, warm bed in a quiet spot). Then just stay near the cats for a short amount of time. Don't hover all day. The mother may become suspicious. Try to pet the mother first. Finally, when you do feel that she will let you pet the kittens, do not remove them from her sight. If you need to pick them up to look at them, do it carefully and sit of the floor near the mother and allow her to keep them in her sight at all times. Then put them back in the box. If the mother knows you are not there to hurt them, she will be cautious but accepting of this behavior.

Don't separate the kittens from the mother for at least 8 weeks. And get the cats fixed unless you want more cats floating around.

Get your cat fixed please. There is no need for more cats in the world, there are too many that are killed each year from not having a home. There are plenty of places that will fix the cat for a lesser fee.
As for petting them, you can touch them as soon as mom will let you as long as your hands are very clean, mom does not freak out, and you are super gentle.
Also cats should only be indoors, better for the cat and better for the local wildlife.

I agree with everyone that you should be able to pet them as soon as momma cat allows you to. Be very quiet and I wouldn't try to lift them, just touch them.

Please please please get your cat fixed! You can take her to get fixed when the kittens are ready to be weaned (about 6 weeks old). If you can't afford it, please call around to your local Humane Society and Animal Shelters to see if anyone will help you with a low cost spay/neuter. Most communities in the U.S. have these. I don't know about the UK.

Good luck! :)

If the mom cat isn't aggressive then you should be able to pet them right after they're born.

But if she doesn't seem comfortable with it then stop and don't try to pet them for a while.

I wouldn't mess with the kittens for maybe one more week.
Then start by petting the momma kitty and slowly work
from petting her to the kittens and then back to petting
momma kitty. This will put her at ease to having you
near her and the babies.
Have fun.

If she trusts you then you could probably go ahead and pet them....When she is around them next time just act like you are going to pet them and see how she reacts. you will know if its okay or not from her reaction..
