Well it sounds like you have really thought about where and what you want... That is the hardest part: making sure you will want it on you for good... It is completely normal to be nervous or doubt your decision... The forearm and wrist are very difficult spots to tattoo as you fear that they might hurt your career... But, it seems to me that you ask your boss and he was fine with it and if worse comes to worse you could always wear long sleeves... I think that if its done tastefully you might also change some peoples views of tattooing in visible places... As for your mother you need to what makes you feel comfortable... 24 yrs young she cant really say anything cuz it sounds like you got it together... Good luck and hope the tat kicks ***...

What professional field? Some are less casual than others. I work in education, IT & software development and it's not even vaguely an issue. Other fields, still considered professional, will have varying levels of acceptability. Area of the country varies a lot, but it's common enough so it's more a matter of where is it not acceptable as opposed to where it is.
On the other hand, I was in Neiman Marcus (Needless Markup?) and the two sales associates that helped me sported visible tats. I might not have bought what I did had we not gotten talking about comparative tattoo styles.
Keep in mind that there is still a lot of strong bias against tattoos, and people will find a reason why you shouldn't be able to get ink (or wear your hair long, or have pierced ears, or ...). I am particularly concerned over that trend. Ask yourself this:
The people who are trying to dissuade you, should you be able to prove that their concern is irrelevant (no proof that there is any sin in tattooing, job/career isn't an issue, whatever), would they still be against it? I tend to doubt it. I trust people who can give unbiased input, but that's rare and even then I take it with a grain of salt.
To specifically answer your question - yes, this is normal. This is especially true if it's your first tattoo, regardless of how long you've thought about it. Consider one final point too. If you give in and don't get the ink, will you be disappointed in yourself that you've bailed on something you want just to assuage the biases and fears of those around you?

I always get nervous a few days before getting a tattoo and I have 5. The doubt is something that could just be coming from the nervousness but the doubt is also coming from other people who do not live your life and who do not own your body. There will always be someone who disapproves of something you do and that's THEIR opinion, not yours. People have every right to disagree with this but it shouldn't matter
Like you said, you thought about it and decided you really want it. Don't let other people discourage you from doing something.
Just ignore what they say and since you can't make everyone happy you might as well concentrate on just yourself. Go get your tattoo and good luck!

hmmm, i have never doubted my tattoos but if you start listening to people they can definitely affect the way you feel about something. as long as you don't feel that it will hurt your career and that you'll be happy with seeing it every day then go for it. is this your first tattoo? i still don't have any visible tattoos. it'll be a while before i venture into getting something that the majority of the public will be able to see often. i toyed with the idea of a wrist tattoo once upon a time but it's not something i am prepared to do now or even for a long time.
good luck!

You just need to sit down and do some soul searching. Try to realize if you're just doubtful over the fear of what others people are thinking about you or, are these people voicing fear that you have deep down inside? If you have any doubt that later in life you are going to regret this tattoo. Don't do it.
Another alternative is UV tattoos. Once they heal they are completely invisible unless under a blacklight. I think they are the perfect solution to a situation like this. You want to be able to appreciate your art but don't want to freak other people out, especially your mother. Also, if years down the road you decide to, you can get it covered over in black so it's visible 24/7.

ok i have both of my wrists tattoo'd and work and work in a professional office job, i totally think your sure especially since you've thought about it for a year. most wrist tattoos depending on size of course can be covered by a bracelet or a watch my fave is when i go on interviews i get those big chunky bracelets and it covers everything.
I think your trying to let others talk to you out of getting something that you have been wanting for awhile.
Don't listen to anyone but yourself.
Good Luck.

Since you work in a professional field, you can get away with wearing a wider bracelet at work.
Yes, the people around you are influencing you, and it's not right for them to do so. You need to get this tattoo for yourself. You will feel better after the inking is done and your religious mother may never accept it. She is your mother and she will still love you.

It's completely normal to be freaking out. This thing is going to be on your body FOREVER! :) If you really like it, and want it put there, then go for it. Don't let other people sway your choice just because they don't think it sounds like a good idea. Worst scenario ends in you giving in and deciding to get your tattoo somewhere that is easily covered. Either way, don't chicken out. Get your tattoo! It'll look great once it's done. :) Good luck!

If you want it, get it. You said you thought about it for a while. I have one on my wrist. I have a large watch that I wear for work and it covers it. Will you be able to do that? Just a factor to think about. It will be there forever. I got mine 15 years ago and I don't regret it but like I said, I can cover it if I need to for work. Think about it some more. If you still want it, go ahead and get it.
