First off I'm going to say that I love Tony, he kicks a**!
FORT WORTH, Texas - Tony Stewart was so frustrated after Sunday's Samsung 500 at Texas Motor Speedway that he did more than hint at retirement.

"I'm ready to retire," said Stewart, who spun twice and endured the wrath of Dale Earnhardt Jr. fans during the race. "As soon as I get enough money saved to where I can retire, I'd be more than happy to step away."

That is what he said and I found this at a website. He was just really frustrated when he said it.

Here is another quote that he said in this same headline!

Will that future be much longer?

"It's not about the racing any more," Stewart said. "It's really not."

That was the last thing he said to whoever was reporting this. I don't think he is going to retire I think he was just pist off and talking that because of being pist off!!

I could see him getting out of NASCAR once his contract is up and racing in some other series. Tony doesn't seem to want anything to do with the media circus - he just wants to race - and he probably never realized what he would get into in NASCAR.

Tony's already done a lot to build himself a post-NASCAR life - he's got his USAC and World of Outlaws race teams, and he owns 2 or 3 tracks, including Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. He'd be much happier running something like the World of Outlaws sprints or late models where he can concentrate on racing and deal with a much smaller media. I think his heart is at the dirt track, and that's where he's happiest.

Of course, I'm sure he'd still take every opportunity to get his face on the Borg-Warner trophy, too.

One thing that we all have to remember is that Tony is only human. The worse thing that we can do is shove a microphone in his face when he has been racing a long emotional race. Give him a break and let him alone. He is a he** of a racer. I give him a lot of credit for declining an interview, especially after this last race. You go Tony, I will back you up. You retire when you are good and ready and not one moment sooner.

He is going to race through 2009, that is when his contract expires with Gibbs. I can definately see him retiring he has the money he has and he has accomplished a tremendous amount except the 500, so he has another 2 years to give that a shot. He said he will honor the Gibbs contract through 2009, but with the teams he already owns and the money he could probably make owning a team why not.

No, he was just upset in the heat of the moment. He is a true competitor, he wants to win, thats all. He is just very frustrated. I dont know what I will do down the line when he does retire. I have been a fan of his since '99. I love the fact he is not afraid to say what he feels.

I sure hope not. Haven't heard anything about it till now. He really wouldn't have a reason to. He's still one of the popular drivers in NASCAR. Tony is some of the sourcesof the NASCAR melodrama but, that is what keeps things interesting. Tighten your seat belts and good luck racing, KODAA peace

I hope not cause I like his "old school" attitude. But I could see him leaving if he wins the Daytona 500.Tony has said many of times that there are 2 other races he wants to win and that's the Indy 500, and in my book the best out of them all,the World 100.

No, never....well, yeah, a few years later
But when he said that he said it in frustration
I mean just look at him and Denny Hamlin; had so many chances and still no win
And they lead the most laps in all three COT races combined.
60% of those laps!! I can understand their frustration
I really can.
And it can lead Tony in saying those kind of things
He has lead the most laps of anyone in this season and still hasn't seen victory lane
It's a rumor but really isn't true

He isn't going to retire for at LEAST another 2 1/2 years-which is when his contract expires.

I highly doubt it - I think the man is just smart enough to be pissed off about all the bull crap! He's a great driver (No I'm not a Stewart fan) and he's sick of being harassed over stupid stuff - I can totally understand where's he coming from.
