Trendy is a relative term. What is now "trendy" is fancy shapes and fixtures that are different from what was available 5 years ago such as glass bowl sinks and the faucet spout coming out of a wall.. Brushed nickle is a great choice as far as looks and ease of cleaning.

I guess it's "trendy" in the sense that it's a more popular choice, and generally used when trying to make a bathroom more up to date. But it's by no means a passing fad. It's been "in" for many years, and because you'll also see it in many upscale homes, chances are it's not going anywhere. The chrome is okay too. It's just that chrome is usually seen/used in more older homes/bathrooms. They say that the bathroom and the kitchen are your money makers when/if you decide to sell the home. So I think the brushed nickel is your best choice. But it's really just a matter of personal preference, and your own taste and style.
I have 3-1/2 bathrooms in my house. Two have brushed nickel fixtures, and two have chrome fixtures. So like I said it's just a matter of personal preference, and what you like in that room. :)
Hope that helps in answering your question.

Whether brushed nickle is or isn't trendy doesn't matter, it really comes down to personal preference. That being said, brushed nickle cleans easier, matches with other colors better and resembles stainless steel.
Good luck.

Trendy? Maybe but it's more popular for a reason-it looks classy! Last time I had chrome in my house I also had grey walls, mauve carpet and teal futon-Yikes! I'd comprimise, let her have her nickle and you can have chrome in the garage. ;>) Good luck!

You two should explore what you truly like and want in YOUR home....remember these things you will see and have every day for years and what is hot and trendy now will be "out" in a matter of time....go with your indidvidual tasttes....your home should reflect you...not this years trends!!!!

I personally wish I would have done my faucets in brushed nickel. I wouldn't call it trendy but I would say it has increased in popularity
