You can read the examples in the bible. devil=diobolos & he is the prince of demons. The Diobolos tempted Jesus in the wilderness & also sows seeds of lies & is a liar, false accuser, slander, thief & murderer. Demons are his messengers.
Examples of demon posession are that they cut themself, throw self in the fire, scream or have an altered demonic voices (multiple personalities) that makes the hair on your neck stand up, they talk murder, evil surmisings, don't have self control.
Even the littlest child of faith can rebuke a demon in someone & tell it to leave that someone, only in the name of Jesus. So, since Jesus, people usually don't get possessed, but people are oppressed. Oppressing people by planting lies in peoples heads. Possession is actually the demon(s) in or clinging to the person. A Christian, born of God, will never be possessed by a demon, because of the Holy Spirit anointing. But a Christian can be oppressed by them. And that takes learning how to overcome the devils lies. And this is growing in faith in Christ.
Examples of signs & behaviors of demon possessed are:
Matthew 9, 4, 8, 12, 15 & 17
Mark 5 & 7
Luke 4, 8, 9 & 11
Some people are demon possessed today, but only because they opened up the door to it in cult practices; practicing drugs, have drunken black outs, spells, consulting with the dead, evil dvds or cds, pornography (especially hard core). They do the devils destructive work.
Many times demonic signs are the copy cat version of the Holy Spirit fruits: faith, hope, love, joy, peace patience, etc. ; Or copycat versions of the Holy Spirit gifts of speaking other languages (speaking the wonders of God), declarations of Gods goodness, or Prophecying an encouraging Word for others in faith, a word of knowledg, wisdom or understanding, discerning of spirits, etc...
So, it is important to know not to blaspheme the Holy Spirit because the devil has its copy cats. The Holy Spirit purpose is for the Gospel of Christ & the devils copy cats is to leave Christ & turn to the devils & to destroy.

What are the signs of demonic possession? Well a person starts swearing and cursing alot out of character. Refuses to bath and wear clean clothes. Their home is filthy and junky and disorderly. Sometimes when people self mutilate themselves it is the act of demonic possession. Multiple personalities. You see characteristics of this when Jesus approached the demon possessed man at Gaderenes. I don't think I spelled it right. The man had a demon called legion. He had on no clothes. He was cutting himself and howling at night. He slept in a grave yard. All these things point to demonic possession.

2) vomits green liquid
3) uses extreme profanity
4) speaks in different languages
5) masturbates with religious items (i.e. crucifix)

Signs of demons' possessions are hard to read, unless you're another demon. Demon language is pretty tricky, like when dogs pee on lampposts and all that. Only dogs can read it. That's why they sniff each others' butts, too. Only They Know.
