When you're stressed, your body perceives it as a threat because it is in distress. As a result, the amygdala (part of your brain mostly responsible for a stress response) is signaled to release cortico-trophin releasing factor (CRF), which activates sympathetic nervous response, which releases hormones, such as adrenaline. Also produced is cortisol, which usually helps the body repair injuries or infections.

In large dosages, however, cortisol is not beneficial to the body. Cortisol and CRF cause immunosuppression, or decreased production of immune agents, particularly T cells and white blood cells called lymphocytes, which normally fight invading bodies.

I can tell you that stress DID WEAKEN my immune system, for a period of time. Following a number of changes in my life and moving to a different climate, I was experiencing depression and prone to constant pain along with several extreme allergic reactions. (my immune system)

As it was explained to me - we only have so much strength/energy to deal with life for any one day. We can survive with added stressors over a relatively short period of time. However, when the number of stressors keep increasing, or are sustained for long periods of time at a high level, it all takes a toll on our body - mind & emotions. Not all of our physical functioning can withstand constant high stress. There will come a point in time where a weak point will become evident, and once it does, other maladies can also occur.
For myself, it was three or 4 years where I experienced one illness & depression after another. Once I began to heal emotionally/psychologically, the physical illnesses also went away.

Well don't know how but i know it does. Stress is the worst sickness of them all. It can kill you. Stress leads to most of the diseases. Including cancer, diabetes, stroke, insult. I think how it does it, its regulating your heart rhythm, and thats your life rhythm.
