Australia boast of first world status yet it is very poor!

Australia with only 20 million people doesn't have the population therefore the money to finance a Disneyland or Las Vegas. Instead, if you go to places like Adelaide they have the poor man's Las Vegas - the Sky City Casino that would probably fit into the foyer of most Vegas clubs and as for amusements Glenelg has got a water-slide and amusement arcade - Disney will be shaking in their boots with the competition. But hey. Who needs Vegas and Disneyland when you've got Yahoo answers!

Why should there be? Is having a Disneyland a standard to measure a country's "first world" status?
....and Las Vegas? Does that mean having a whole city full of people losing families and friends and wasting their lives from gambling addiction a measure of how rich a country is?
Is The USA really so great? I just watch some interviews of "people on street" in the USA being asked simple general knowledge questions and this are the responses:
**"Name a country starting with U"
- "Yugoslavia", "Utah"
**"Who is Fidel Castro?"
- "A singer?"
**"What is the religion of Israel?"
- "Muslim", "Catholic, probably"
So, Bon m, you boast that the USA has Disneyland and Las Vegas and that means you are rich? But what does it say about your education? By the way, do you know the answers to the above questions? LOL

*smacks my forehead* You have got to be kidding me right?!?!?! I think ever Aussie in the room should get the right to smack you for this question!! It's no wonder the rest of the world hates yanks!
Aside from the population that could not support large money sucking places such as the Sin City and D.land... the people of Australia have different values than Americans. They still believe in taking there kids to the beach or camping in caravan parks. Spending time together without dropping a years pay while doing it and sending jr. off with some cotton candy to stand in line for 3 hours to ride a 30 second ride!!! And as for Las Vegas...why have a whole city dedicated to gambling when it is legal throughout the country. Spending afternoons at the local pub with your mates is more fun than dropping coins in slots.
I think it all boils down to values!
If you are looking for a place to vacation that has Disneyland and Las Vegas... maybe look to China. But honestly... do the rest of the world a favour and stay in the US!!

You mean Disneyland and Las Vegas make the USA first world? The USA is a barbarian nation that kills its citizens in the name of justice, allows them all to carry guns and wonders why they shoot each other. It is ruled by fundamentalist religion. It has ingrained sectarian hatred and violence. Disneyland and Las Vegas are just the gloss on a violent, ill-educated uncivilised country that, unfortunately, has the ability to blow up anyone else and has become the world bully.
I know our leader, Little Lying Johnny, wants to emulate the USA but fortunately we will get rid of him later this year.

why would we want another disneyland and las vegas in this world - as we all know americanis try and control the world by interefering in other countries.
who said we aussies are poor - we dont have to go out and big note ourselves like the americans do and go down the same path like you americans - crime, violence, wars, drugs, gambling addictions - need I say more

Because we have something so much better its Football,meat pies ,kangaroos and Holden cars and an ability to entertain ourselves last but not least a sense of humour
