It is preferred that the guy is older than the girl because women mature at a younger age that guys do. In order to make the relationship work the guy has to mature and reach the level of the girl's maturity. However, after past a certain age, mostly 21, both women and men are mature enough to handle a relationship therefore a gap in age difference is ok!

Sure, but it depends on the ages. If you're 14-20, I wouldn't date anyone much younger than about a year, or much older than two years. Now that I'm 23, and have dated someone a year younger and it failed, I'd be all about dating someone older and more mature.

Often if ones a little too young you could sort of date but go no further then say kissing for a couple of years which may make things difficult... if both are older the age gap is not so much of a problem

if you are both over 18 I'd say yes- but what ages are we talking about here? With an age gap that is considerable, usually the couple finds that one or other of them has nothing in common with the others friends and opinions, so it doesn't always work long term.
