The sn# is 1989068. I want to know when made & approx value in good shape. A good recommended book & ammo recommendations on the subject gun would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It should have been manufactured in 1953. Depending on condition it could be worth from $300 to $3000. There were 3 models of 1894, the standard rifle the trapper and the saddle ring. The best bet would be to let a gunsmith appraise it.

As far as ammunition...I would take it to the gunsmith first to make sure that it is in firing condition. You wouldn't want to ruin it by taking the risk.

If it was manufactured before 1964 it is more valuable. They are selling at between $300 and $500 in good condition...They are a excellent Rifle and a good brush gun. The 30-30 has killed more Whitetail Deer than any other rifle. I know because I have hunted with one. Great gun. Any of the assorted bullet weights in that caliber are fine.
