Sister, I don't think it's that. I think they are genuinely curious. I personally try not to get into it with anyone. I only ask questions that debunk what propagandists have twisted, not to preach. We need to set by example, and not by just words. Sister, leave them be. "Let there be no compulsion in religion". "Say to them, to you be your religion and to me be mine". That goes for non-religions too. If you are polite and genuine, it shines through and people do take notice. Cheer up sister, I know how you feel (((HUGS))).

I'll tell you why I come here: atheists are bombarded every day with someone else's religion. The President of the country in which I am a citizen, pay taxes and vote, constantly invokes the name of god, and it's OK with most people because they feel the same way. I keep hoping that if I could get just one person to think about his/her religion, question why he/she believes that way, start to see that atheists are generally very moral, honest people who simply don't happen to believe in a mythological system, well, there's no harm in trying to spread information and get people to use their brains a little, is there?
Addition: "There are no atheists on a sinking ship." LIFE is a sinking ship. We're all going to die at some point. Atheists are brave enough to face the fact that after we die, we're not going to be alive somewhere else. That's a difficult concept and one of the main reasons religions exist in the first place.

Right now, it's because I was on the Society and Culture page and saw yet another question about atheists. Given the tremendous lies that some Christians like to spread about us, I figured it was worth a look in.
Other days, it's because my two degrees in religious studies, including seminary, mean that this is one area in which I'm actually qualified to answer questions.
I've had quite enough religion already, I really don't need any more in my life, thank you.
Are you willing to consider what the atheists actually say, rather than just BAing the Christian who most closely agrees with what you already think?

In all the time i've been on Y!A I've seen this question pop up the most. It just goes to show that all the lemmings think the way they've been programmed to think.
You do not have to BE in a religion to TALK about religion. Does one have to be a football player to talk about football? Does one have to be a pilot to talk about flying in a plane?
Why is it that all religious types feel Atheists aren't allowed to talk about religion? This is Y!A.... it's not an exclusive "members only" type place. it's an open forum where anyone can come to answer any questions about anything. If you don't like it go find a forum that specializes in your own religion so you don't have to hear any of the Atheist opinions.

Atheists are allowed to talk about whatever they want. To deny us this right would be religious discrimination. Many atheists are interested in religion and have questions/answers about it. Many atheists have knowledge to share, many want to know more about religion.
Really, was this that hard for you to come up with on your own?

I think there are 3 groups:
1) Those who come here just to insult and mock religion, but they are blind and deaf for the truth
2) Those who are openly searching for the truth
3) And those who secretly want to knew about God
Not having a religion is like a handicap.

Here's my stock answer for this stock question:
Basically, we are not so much concerned about religion as we are about the effect that the right-wing fundamentalists are having on the world we live in. They want to teach our children ID, restrict the rights of homosexuals, and make reproductive and end-of-life choices for us... and that makes us very uncomfortable.

No, for many of us it's an openly known wish that YOU DIDN'T have religion since you apparently can't keep it to yourself.

by all the "drinking" responses you can see what kind of ppl you are dealing with here. uneducated people who have nothing to say,and no real mission but to be disrespectful and immature. so they have in fact answered your question very well . next time an atheist responds to a question , they are showing their true colors and makes me even happier to be a believer

Not at all: we come here just because we openly wish to peacefully share our knowledge with those believers whose eyes and ears are not totally shut.
