Behaviour patterns with regard to vacations have altered.

The average length of holidays taken in the summer has shortened: it has shrunk from four weeks in the seventies to three nowadays.

Annual leave has become more splintered and is divided between extended week-ends dotted all over the year.

Winter vacations have increased in popularity, in particular since a fifth week of paid leave has been mooted.

Sounds like the evolution of vacation.

You got more time of in the 70's ie 4 weeks and now there is only 3 weeks.

But now you have the time split up so you have more days attached to weekends and you get long weekends off instead of a whole week off.

You also have a 5th week in the winter...not sure what that is...

BTW France in total has 37 mandated vacation days for workers, so with a 5 day work week it comes out to like 7 week vacation!

Vacation behaviour has changed.

The average length of a vacation is shorter: it has gone from four weeks in the 1970s to three weeks today.

Days off are more often divided up over the year (as long weekends)

Winter vacations have become more common, especially since the time when a fifth week of paid vacation came into effect.

(I'm not sure if the last line is right (ie it's a general rule), or it means "especially for those who are now eligible for a fifth week of paid vacation" (ie they're senior enough).)
