I think it's more an indication of the American media.
Think about this...when was the last time before this crash that you read an article about the Blue Angels? Does this not give you the impression that they don't actually do anything, and that this might have been a rookie pilot in a poorly maintained aircraft?
These are the best pilots in the world, bar none, and they perform somewhere almost every day, and have for the past 40 years if not more. They are heroes to the few who know who they are and what they do, but the VT shooter has gotten more attention in the past week than the Blue Angels have in the past five years.

Easy there southern belle. It is very sad. It also is a very high risk job. Unfortunately accidents do happen. It is distressing to lose somebody as talented and honorable as a blue angel, and a tragedy to lose any public involved. It is not the end of the world though.

It isn't any more tragic than any of the dozens of traffic fatalities that happened over the weekend. In fact, I can make a case that the crashing death of one of the Blue Angels is actually a relatively positive happening -- although not for the individual involved or his family, of course.
The Blue Angels and all of those types of military air shows are designed as a recruitment tool for the military and as a means to garner public support for a nation whose main industry is promoting war. The Blue Angles recent debacle was a disaster on both fronts and that's a good thing for both the American people and the military's many victims abroad.

Very sad. It's happened several times before, too - I remember hearing about angel crashes since I was a kid.
I think they love what they do, though - how many people can say that?

it's very sad. He had only been flying for 2 years with the Angels. The last crash was in 99. Who knows the reason yet. but i guess he died doing what he loved... very sad though..

It's tragic but it's not the end of the world. I think those Blue Angels shows aren't really worth the risk and what happened this weekend proved it. You can be one of the best flyers in the world but you're still human and prone to mistakes.

I pray for the families of the pilot. He was the only one killed. That was such a sad thing considering he was just trying to entertain....
