I have difficulty choosing the kind of fish to cook. I always wonder what type of fish to order in the restaurant, sometimes I get unlucky by ordering the wrong type of fish.

Your advice please!!!

Grilled Rainbow Trout, Fried White Perch, or Tiliapia at home.
Ahi Tuna, Mahi Mahi, or Sea Bass (All Grilled) at Restaurants. If I do order Ahi Tuna out, I always make sure that they know I want it Rare, no more than 2 minutes on each side. Most "nice" restaurants already do that though.

My dad loves to go fishing; it's one of his hobbies. So I grew up eating a lot of freshwater fish, particularly bass and walleye.

The preparation my family liked best was to grill it and serve it with salsa.

Generally, fish tastes best when it's prepared and cooked immediately after being caught. If you live on a coast, consider yourself lucky (as it's much easier to get really fresh fish).

But, taste is a matter of personal preference! I like bass and walleye, but really don't like any other fish. The next answerer might say everything is great except bass and walleye.

So, maybe just get a notebook and some paper, and keep a log of all the fish you try and how it's prepared. Good luck!

The best fish meal I ever had was fresh rainbow trout. It had been made into a parcel wrapped in foil with slices of lemon, garlic, butter, a little onion and ground pepper wrapped and cooked in the coals of an open fire. Delish!! This works just as well in an oven with any type of fish.
At restaurants I usually stick to flake - it is very difficult to cook flake badly I think.

Chilean Sea Bass, in my own opinion, is THE best tasting fish by FAR! I love it! This is going to sound strange, but it is like candy to me!

Attached are some Sea Bass recipes.

For any fish...

I recommend using fresh lemon juice and melted butter poured over the fish, followed by a healthy sprinkle of Dill Weed, and a little cracked black pepper. Bake fish until flaky. Very good!

ps... Even if you don't pick my answer as best answer.... you absolutely must try Chilean Sea Bass sometime, and when you do, you'll wish you would've picked my answer as best answer!

I love salmon. My favorite way to cook it is on the BBQ grill.

I brush it with olive oil, sprinkle on some sea salt (coarse, though not big salt granules), coarse ground pepper and dill. I put it on the grill skin side down, until it is done to Medium Rare. Perfection and simplicity combined in one delicious fish filet.

If you can order red snapper that is the way to go.I like to take snapper and grill it on the BBQ.I wrap it in foil,dab of real butter,lemon wedges,sprinkle with sea salt.Grill 8 mins on each side.Depending on the size of filets.Taste great and flaky.good question.

Grilled King Mackerel or Spanish Mackerel. You can do it at home. For a restaurant, whatever they specialize in. I'm not choosy but I like seafood best.
