The rules and history concerning the Nazi Youth movement were quite clear. No children/teenagers were ever "drafted". Simply because at the time until the fall of Germany, to be a member of the Hitler Youth was considered one of the highest honors. Only the very best of the best Nazi supporters were able to get their children members.

What the Catholic apologists are trying to do is confused the drafting of "all able bodied" men towards the end of the war into service- a completely different thing. They were never made "Hitler Youth".

In relation to Pope Benedict's Idol and role model, Pope Pius XII, no objective scholar can seriously deny that Pius XII was at least sympathetic to the ideals of the Nazi's and other Catholic mass murderers such as Mussolini and Franco, at worst, had an active hand in their collaboration.

In relation to Hitler, even the Catholic Church cannot deny that Pope Pius was for many years the head of the Catholic Church in Germany and indeed was stationed in Munich, having direct contact with Hitler before becoming Pope. The former housekeeper of Pacelli (Pius) even testified that Hitler religiously attended the Bishops residence on regular visits.

One particular historic event, which cannot be denied even by the most persuasive of Catholic apologists is the event in 1943 of the clearing of the Jewish ghetto of over 1,000 souls next to Vatican City.

So sensitive were the Germans to such a direct "cleansing" right next door to the home of Pope Pius, that the German ambassador is recorded as pleading on behalf of Adolf Hitler for the Pope to make some kind of negative comment- proving he was against the deportation.

It is recorded as the most extraordinary diplomatic gesture of World War II- a free hit, whereby the Pope could have said anything he wanted with full diplomatic knowledge that Hitler himself had permitted a response. Instead, the pontiff said nothing and all but a dozen were murdered.

To this very day 2007, the Vatican refuses to comment on this crime against humanity within the shadow of St Peter.s To this day, no pontiff has ever apologised to the less than 15 survivors, nor even shown the human decency to meet them.

The stock standard answer to such irrefutable proof is to deny- deny it ever happened. In fact some audacious Catholic PR merchants and apologists even dare to publish quotes to various articles claimining the opposite- that incredibly they claim Pius was sympathetic to Jews and against Hitler!

Unfortunately, most good people see these alleged "educated" answers and think they must be true.

People often forget that Germany is NOT a Catholic country it is an Evangelical Lutheran nation. Therefore the Pope would have had little influence on what the Nazis were up to. Also the war was from 1939-45, not medieval times. The Pope doesn't have a personal army anymore, his power is more limited. Therefore he could not physically "force" the Nazis to stop their wrong doing!

Joseph Ratzinger was forced as a teenager to join the Hitler-Jugent as all German boys had to.
He left them after a short while.
If you were compelled by the government to join an association under pain of death would you?
Many German Catholics fought for their country in the second world war. I don't think that makes them Nazis. Do you think all the soldiers in Iraq are Republican?
Nazism was condemned several times by the pope, for example in the Encyclical 'Mit Brennender Sorge' by Pius XI.
It was written by the future Pius XII.
That the Church would have supported Hitler is a myth invented by Communist Soviet Union.
The Communists were afraid of the Church and the pope and rightly so, because the Polish pope defeated the Communists in Europe and put an end to the Cold War, Why? Because falsehood cannot exist too long when confronted with the truth.
The pope has suffered much persecution from both Nazis and Communists and now from the Secularists, Why, because of his Christian faith. Americans cannot imagine.

Pope Benedict XVI was drafted into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army just like every other non-Jewish German male. He was not given a choice.

The Pope is not and never has been a Nazi. He unfortunately was born and grew up in a country ruled by the Nazi party.

Every draftee into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army was not a Nazi.

Just hope and pray that you do not have to make a decision to be executed or live and fight for a government in which you do not believe.

Thank God that you and I live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1930s and 1940s Germany. Or do we?

With love in Christ.

He was in the Hitler Youth. That is not tantamount to being a Nazi. However, many of the Pope's writings are very traditionalist in a way that can be likened to fascism, but more in the Mussiolini 'The Doctrine Of Fascism' sense than Hitler in 'Mein Kampf' and National Socialism.

The catholics have always supported the Nazis, they do not denounce abusive regimes but make sure they get their fare share of the loot!

Whatever you can think of is next or has been done already by catholics and/or the vatican.

That Schindler guy was a Nazi too, pal. In those times being a Nazi wasn't matter of choice but surveillance matter.

The predominately roman catholic republic of ireland were the only country on earth to send condolences to the german embassy in dublin on hearing of hitlers death, they collaborated with the nazis with romes` blessing in the hope that if britain lost the war they would be handed northern ireland as a loyalty bonus.

He sold out jesus much like peter did. When it came time to show how strong his faith was he caved like the worm he is. Its very easy to be god fearing when you're a priest in a peaceful catholic nation, apparently that's the only time he's a catholic.
