And is a little worried about the size of the airport and all the people and the forigness and the commotion becuase she can become panicky in such situations. Would flying into Phuket airport be any less duanting or not really.

My friend has no problem with flying what so ever and will be fine to travel with. The only thing that ever makes here nervous is wide open crowded spaces like airport terminals.

She's worried about the airport and you are flying to Thailand in a 747 with 300 plus people. :-)
When you exit the plane there is a fairly large corridor to go down. On one side is a walking ramp and the other you can walk at your own pace. Most people take the walking ramp. Just walk along and take your time. There are a few restrooms along the way and go in and freshen up a little and then continue.
Then I think you take a zig-zag turn and go further to immigration and customs. Go to the 2nd or 3rd entrance, I think there are 4 and find a short line and then you enter the baggage claim which can get a little nuts sometimes. People edgy to get their luggage.
Beyond that is the taxis and transportation. It's not really bad beyond there.
Most people don't rush around there. Cause it's Thailand and the traffic can be horrid sometimes. Just take your time at your pace and she should be okay.
I can understand her panic. I sometimes get claustophobic in busy, hustle bustle malls. Take a deep breath and try not to get caught up in the hustle. If she smokes there is a smoking room along the way. And do it your way.
All the signs are in english, though they make not make total sense. Just keep moving with the crowd or follow the crowd and she should be okay.
I just returned from holiday.
Enjoy Thailand.

if your going to phuket then fly into phuket. however nothing to be scared about flying into Bangkok. i think you friend has a few issues they need to deal with before traveling. Also if your friend acts like this your going to have a miserable vacation with this person. Someone who lives here and have traveled out of Bangkok a number of times since the airport open.

Hi, there will not be much to see at the new international airport as that was the main reason it was moved away from Don Muang. You can always ask your friend to look for things in the distance, and not focus on things close by. This will keep her attention away from the open spaces that is usually present in an airport. Ask her to look for unique buildings or structures in the distances and try to find them on any map you can get hold of. Hopefully this can help divert her attention. Just think of ways to keep her attention from the spaces outside should help, I guess.
Have fun in Thailand.

You have to fly into Bangkok International airport and transfer to Don Meuang airport for Phuket ( about an hour on bus number 555, depending on the traffic ). Your friend had best get something from her GP to settle her nerves before she sets off.

I assume your friend has a nervous breakdown which cause paranoia.
Short term solutions would be St John's Wort herbal tea or pills before flying or arriving. It is safe and yet organic. It helps your friend to calm down.
You could suggest Xanax pills at Boots chemist. It help to reduce anxiety and nervousness too.
Good luck.
