I asked a question on behalf of my brother about getting circumcised & someone replied that circumcision desensitises the penis.
Is this true, my bro wondered, does it make sex better, worse or about the same.?

sigumend…
yes actually, my brother did ask me to ask this question, I don't know what you may think of doing with your sister, but my brother is a decent boy that has just come to his older sister for advice.
I sometimes think other people have very sick imaginations.

I heard it is suppose to increase sensitivity and lead to a better orgasm for the male. If you peel back the skin on your helmet and touch the skin underneath it is very very sensitive. Wouldn't do it myself though its there for a reason!!
Let us know how he gets on though

Yeah, getting circumcised for that reason is not a good one. Your penis will feel SO sensitive for those several weeks right after getting circumcised that it probably won't be a pleasant experience. Furthermore, this extreme sensitivity is rather common and is very easy to treat without circumcision. Try this. Pull back your foreskin and just expose your glans (penis head) to the air for a few minutes each day. You don't even have to have it touch anything except the air. Eventually after a week or two, you might want to gently touch it with either your hands or something soft. After a month, it should no longer feel so sensitive. Another thing you should do as well is to pull back your foreskin during a shower/bath and wash the area underneath with water and a mild soap. If it's too sensitive at first to touch, just letting water run over it is okay. Again, along with exposing it to the air for a few minutes a day, this will help you get used to the sensitive until it becomes bearable. So try those things, and after a month it should no longer be a problem for you. If at any time it gets to be too much, just pull your foreskin back over to cover the glans and try again later. At least with a foreskin, you have the option of keeping it comfortably covered if it feels too sensitive. If you get circumcised, it's exposed all the time and will feel constantly sensitive until it begins to desensitize, and keeps desensitizing over time.

I'll just copy and paste a reply I put in last night to another thread. It has the studies sources that you want in the British Journal of Urology.

-----

New studies in the British Journal of Urology have found/confirmed that circumcision reduces sensitivity, pleasure, and increases masturbatory difficulty in a significant number of guys. (up to over 60%). That happens because over years the head gets used to being rubbed by everything like clothes when circumcised. They're here:

And a page that gives you illustrations on the results:

To start off, with cleaning, well, that's really not a concern. You just slide it back and rub the head. That takes about less than 10 seconds and feels good (hello, it's the head? =P). I know, I'm uncircumcised. Also when erect whether cut or not the head can be shown, since the foreskin slides back. The only difference is that the shaft may look a little thicker in uncut guys and the foreskin slides up and down during masturbation and sex to stimulate the head (it's moist; no lubes needed).

As far as HIV/AIDS goes, that study was for Africa. Here in the USA we are the only industrialized nation that does it, yet we still have the highest HIV rates. (more than uncircumcised Europe, Asia, and Latin America) That's straight from the CIA statistics. The reason why Africa has those problems is because they somehow disapprove of condoms.

Now, cancer. Circumcision does NOT prevent penile cancer. The American Cancer Society already stated that in the links below. And as far as cervical cancer goes, girls are now being vaccinated against that; I'm sure you've seen it on the news.

If he does continue with getting circumcised, just make sure he gets put to sleep. That way he won't go through the pain that newborns go through (yeah, it's painful). Then it'll take about a week or two of leaving it alone to heal.

I say that because I'm a moderator at a teenage puberty site, and a boy was circumcised at 12 by his father's wishes, and he hates it:

Circumcision does indeed tend to lead to a desensitisation of the penis. This results from both the glans being constantly exposed after circumcision which causes a layer of dead skin cells to form over it and for it to become gradually keratinised, burying nerve endings deeper. Circumcision also removes a significant amount of skin from the penis. It is quite obvious that nerve endings create pleasure sensitivity, and nerve endings are located in skin. If you remove skin, you will remove nerve endings, and thus also pleasure sensitivity. Circumcision may remove as much as 50% of the penile skin, and aptly can be called penile reduction surgery. Much sensitivity is lost due to the foreskin being removed too. The foreskin has been shown by the latest studies to be the most pleasure sensitive area of the penis, responsible for much pleasure sensitivity, especially the areas known as the ridged bands located near the tip of the foreskin, and the frenulum which stretches down from the tip on the inner foreskin and onto the glans. These structures are found to have the most intense sensitivity and the greatest concentration of nerve endings, especially the ridged bands which are the most sensitive. According to the studies, which utilised monofiliment pressure tests to ascertain the sensitivity of areas of the penis, the ridged band location has the greatest touch sensitivity, which twice as much sensitivity as the most sensitive area of the circumcised penis. This area is always removed during circumcision.

Personally, I am circumcised, and I have very little surface sensitivity. For many circumcised men, surface touch provides very little sensitivity and all,, hence what pleasure there is left seems to be internal and not coming from the skin surface. There is very little pleasure at all from the skin i have left, most of what little left seems to come internally, only at climax. Hence there is only very little pleasure in the journey, and most of what is left comes at the arrival. Most of the pleasure does not come from the skin surface at all, which contributes very little and isnt really much more pleasurable than any other part of my body. To say that circumcision completely alters and degrades male sexuality is increasingly proven, and is an understatement, the loss is considerable. Circumcision has brought me great sadness and loss, especially the basic human right to make my own decisions about my own body and to decide for myself about truly medically unethical and permenant mutilations of it. It really needs to be up to the person whose body it is to decide, and no one else. And they need to be fully informed that they could lose a significant amount of pleasure sensitivity. Once it is done there is no going back.

Most conditions can be treated without circumcision. Conditions affecting the penis are rare, but when they happen, conservative treatment ought to be the first option. It is not medically justifiable to cut off a body part when the condition on it can be treated without circumcision, or certainly when there is no actual medical abnormality on the part at all. Here is a page that has informaton on non-amputation treatments for medical abnormalities effecting the penis: http://www.cirp.org/library/treatment/

The desensitization can be quite dramatic. Circumcised men often cannot get enough stimulation from normal intercourse and have to pull out and masturbate to climax. This is very demoralizing to both partners! One man said his glans after circumcision was no more senstive than his elbow. Advise your brother to enjoy what he has. A lot of guys would give almost anything to have an intact foreskin. See http://www.norm.org for a few examples.

Yes, it removes about 70% of the sensory nerve endings of the penis and leads to the glans deuing out. It is actually a serious genital injury.

from what I have read, some men say it's the best decision they ever made and some say it's the worst decision they ever made, you hear hear people say they feel a lot better or they feel a lot worse. It's all mixed opinions about it so it's hard to know really for sure unless he had it done to himself, then he would be happy or unhappy with it, you never really know, depends on the person. I have read many things where men say it's positive or negative and women saying it's better or worse.

had it done to me at 6 and finally got it reversed at 20.
i found it had a very negative impact on my sex life.
Since i had it reversed i regained a little sensitivity in the glans, you loose a bit of sensitivity as you get older naturally
but with circumcision the glans ages a lot quicker.During oral sex for the most part i wouldn't know anyone was there unless i looked. How long you last is mainly psychological
this improves as you become more experienced and relaxed .

Sexual sensitivity is lessened, though you'd better hope the girl is wet, the penis's natural lubricant is gone, son.
