Convert the mixed fraction into improper fraction by multiplying the denominator of the fraction to the whole number and then add the numerator and retain the denominator

W N/D ===> improper fraction

( D x W + N)/D

In our expression

6 1/5 = (5 x 6 = 30 + 1 = 31/5
1 2/5 = 5 x 1 = 5 + 2 = 7/5

31/5 -7/5 =??
To subtract fractions, be sure they have the same denominator and then just subtract the second numerator from the first numerator and then retain the common denominator.
31/5 - 7/5 = 31-7 = 24/5 ===> convert this to mixed number
To convert improper fraction into mixed number ( a number with a whole number and a fraction), divide traditionally the numerator by the denominator. The remainder will be the numerator and then retain the original denominator
24/5 = 4 remainder 4/5 or 4 4/5

this is a mixed fraction. convert it into a whole fraction. so u'll get
31/5 - 7/5

as the denominator (the one at the botton of the fraction) are already the same , we just work with the nominator (the one at the top of teh fraction)

31 - 5 = 46

so the answer is 46/5 which can be converted once again into mixed fraction giving 9 and one over 5

(6 +1)/5 - (1 + 2)/5

Both denominators (lower number) are the same.
Do both additions, then subtract.
7/5 - 3/5 = 4/5
